Vincent D’Onofrio had some big shoes to fill as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, in Marvel's Daredevil. As one of the most iconic villains in the Marvel Universe, audience expectations were sky high. D’Onofrio, however, rose to the challenge, delivering a nuanced performance that quickly shot to the top of the MCU villain roster. While his performance set the stage for the likes of David Tennant in Jessica Jones and Mahershala Ali in Luke Cage, you wouldn’t be wrong for thinking his was the best.

With his character currently imprisoned, however, will fans ever get the chance to see Fisk walk the streets again? That was a question D'Onofrio answered while discussing his role as the crime lord, and one he seemed eager to address.

D'Onofrio recently spoke with Collider (via CBR) about the likelihood of Fisk’s return to the MCU, and offered fans some good, if somewhat reserved, news about the prospects for more Kingpin. It seems that Fisk will indeed be returning to Hell’s Kitchen at some point, though the time table is as of yet unknown.

“He will, eventually. Honestly, I wish I knew ‘cause I could plan my year better. I know he will come back, I just don’t know when. I can’t wait to find out. I’m totally into the Marvel stuff, big time. I want to do Marvel, all the time.”

Vincent D'Onofrio as the Kingpin

Marvel has quite a bit going on this year, both on Netflix and in the movies. The company's latest series, Iron Fist, is set to premiere in just a couple of months on the streaming service, and the crossover The Defenders is expected to drop later this year. So far, Netflix has allowed each character to deal with their own villains without much direct crossover, so a Kingpin appearance in Iron Fist seems pretty unlikely. The Defenders seems more likely, though if that happens it will most likely be a minor role while the team faces a larger challenge in the form of Sigourney Weaver's character.

Chances are, fans shouldn’t plan to see Fisk until the third season of Daredevil, which isn’t expected until sometime in 2018. That might be mildly disappointing for Fisk fans out there, but it’s equally disappointing for D'Onofrio himself, who made no secret about his love for the MCU and comic book movies.

“I love it so much ‘cause they’re so creative over there. They let you bring this whole new thing to an iconic thing that they invented. It’s just so much fun. I love it to death. I want to see Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman. There’s something about those movies. I dig the shit out of them. I’ve been tweeting back and forth with James Gunn, about doing something with him because I love Guardians of the Galaxy so much.”

Even if fans don’t get to see D’Onofrio return to Marvel in the immediate future, there’s something oddly comforting about knowing he shares in the excitement for the ever-expanding universe. We’ll keep out eyes out for any news about Fisk or D’Onofrio and will keep you posted as it develops.
