Just weeks after releasing his debut pop single, “Feel Like I Do,” Vin Diesel is back with another, called "Days Are Gone". The action star is most notable for leading roles in franchises like The Chronicles of Riddick and The Fast and the Furious, but his career has spanned a wide range of genre across many different projects. The foray into pop music is just the latest venture for Diesel, who seems dedicated to continue making songs.

The lighthearted, nostalgic, feel-good energy of “Feel Like I Do” and the new song, “Days Are Gone,” may seem like dramatic shift from the kinds of high-octane action films Diesel is known for. Most people know him primarily as Dom Toretto in the Fast franchise, which will include at least two more core films after the release of next year’s F9: The Fast Saga. Even with that announced extension, fans may wonder what the future holds for Diesel once Toretto’s story is over. It seems that more musical projects could be the answer.

Diesel’s new song, “Days Are Gone,” is similar in style to “Feel Like I Do.” It has a relatively standard modern pop sound and format, but with the added twist of Diesel’s unique vocal talents. Listeners of his first song, whether supporters or critics, were quick to point out how very distinct Vin’s voice is in comparison to what you usually hear on the radio. It’s also safe to say that unique sound was not exactly universally beloved. You can make your own judgement on the new song by listening below.

It’s always interesting to see artists branch out from their most famous forms and try their hand at a new medium. Some famous names like David Bowie, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Jack Black have found success as both musicians and actors, though most of those began their artistic careers in the music realm. It’s unclear if Diesel is trying to break into that same club, but the response to his approach so far may not bode especially well for his future in music.

Regardless of whether or not his singing career takes off, Diesel will always have a dedicated fan base for his trademark brand of wild action movies. The Fast & Furious films may even send Dom to space in the next one, so there’s no telling where the franchise could go by the time the saga ends. Until F9 premieres, maybe fans can tied themselves over listening to “Days Are Gone.” Artistic taste is subjective after all.
