The folks over at Gamespot had a one-on-one phone interview with Vin Diesel to discuss his new video game, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, and in the interview the topic of a third live-action Chronicles of Riddick movie came up.
In the interview, the question about writing complexities for the game with regards to story implications of a potential third movie was raised and Diesel responded:
Good question. Maybe we're too tight-lipped about the next Chronicles of Riddick film, and I think circa the release of [Dark Athena] that's probably when you'll start hearing more about the next Riddick film. It is underway and I almost think it's a coincidence that we haven't heard anything, that there hasn't been a lot of public stuff on the Riddick movie.
Later in the conversation, Diesel said that the writer of the first two films; Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, David Twohy, is currently finishing up the script while he (Vin) has been working away hard on this game.
Diesel is very passionate about the Riddick character and he personally had a big hand in the development of the previous game in the series titled Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay which received critical acclaim upon release. He went as far as creating his own development company, Tigon Studios, to assist in games that he’s involved in.
I really enjoyed Pitch Black and while many disliked its sequel, I also enjoyed it despite some obvious faults - Vic's review of The Chronicles of Riddick closely matches what mine would have been. I look forward to see him return to his most iconic role and to see what lies ahead for Riddick.
