History Channel's acclaimed Vikings TV show is by far one of the most interesting fantasy shows currently available to binge-watchers. Not only is it historically accurate most of the time but it also manages to have tension always so that you are constantly guessing what will happen next.

An integral element of the show is its costume design as well as the hair and makeup details. In fact, you might even get inspired by some things and decide to do something like that for yourself too, so here are 10 Coolest Vikings Hairstyles For Men.

Classic Viking

Ragnar Lagertha Vikings

Ragnar's classic Viking hairstyle is the one he sports throughout the majority of the first season. It might look a bit overboard for the regular guy nowadays, but it used to be the standard hairstyle for men in that period in Northern Europe.

In any case, this hairstyle can be perfect for those who value their hair and are willing to pay more attention to it. You will need to dedicate a lot of time to maintain the hair of such length, and you'll need to braid it. It can still pay off in the long run though as you will look very authentic.

Simple Curls

These simple curls are becoming more and more popular in our days as guys prefer growing out their hair. King Ecbert and some other characters had this hairstyle for a while on the show as it was more common to have shoulder-length hair in the Viking Age.

However, you need to think twice before you decide to grow out your hair. It might not look like a lot, but it is still a huge change from usual short hair. Besides, longer hair doesn't suit everyone, so that might be a problem for some men too.

Modern

This is the one hairstyle that most guys already know about. When you go to your hairdresser, this is what they will mostly cut your hair like. Actually, it is so popular that some guys are starting to think of new ways they can make their hair look good and stand out from the crowd.

When Heahmund was introduced in the show, it felt a little odd looking at the way his hair was cut, because at the time, this hairstyle was not worn at all. Nevertheless, it's nice to know that it is one of the easiest hairstyles from the show that you can get for yourself.

Almost Bald

After wearing that gorgeous Viking hairstyle, it was kind of a disappointment to see Ragnar cut off his hair and be nearly bald. At least he had his beard still intact which made the look more unique and kind of unusual despite almost every male character on the show also having a beard.

The peculiar thing about this hairstyle is that you don't need to get rid of your hair completely. You will still have some buzzed hair left on the top of your head which can be a dramatic change for you if you usually wear even a regular modern hairstyle as Heahmund does.

Buzzed On The Back

You could say that this is a later stage of having the "almost bald" hairstyle. Buzzed on the back rather than being completely bald, this hairstyle Bjorn wore in the earlier seasons had more hair on the top and the front as well as a bit on the sides.

It is probably more suitable for younger guys or even boys rather than middle-aged men, but it is still very stylish. Besides, it is different from the regular modern hairstyle many people expect you to have, and even if you end up not liking it, you can always cut it shorts and get a regular look.

Tied Back

After he grew out his hair a little more, Bjorn started tying it back over his head which looks extremely good (and maybe even better than what it was like before). There is just enough hair to look good and not too much that it will make you spend a lot of time on it.

This hairstyle has also been kind of popular in the past few years, so you can definitely expect to look stylish with it. The buzzed hair on the back will also ensure that you don't sweat too much in summer while the fact that you would be tying it would not allow it to get in your eyes.

Messy Braids

Hvitserk goes on the Mediterranean voyage with Bjorn in Vikings.

Hvitserk's hairstyle has mostly stayed consistent throughout several seasons. He usually keeps it at shoulder-length or a little longer, and always braids it and pulls it back so that it doesn't get in his why neither while he is fighting nor while he is doing some mundane chores.

Of course, you will need to start paying more attention to your hair with this hairstyle which is why it is only recommended for those who know they can put in the extra effort to make it look good. You will also need to practice a little before you get good at it.

On The Side

Not a crazy hairstyle, but this "on the side" look would still bother some men who aren't used to having their hair in their eyes. It's a bit risky to wear your hair this way, but it could still work for the real fashionistas who want to go a little further with their image.

You will first need to grow out your hair and then cut and buzz it accordingly to make. If you feel like it starts annoying you, you could always tie it back into a ponytail, but it might not look the same way that Bjorn's "tied back" hairstyle does as the buzzed parts are different.

Twirled Viking

Ivar might not be the most likable character on the show, but he sure knows how to look great. In addition to that, he enjoys looking like a king as often as he can allow it (just remember the time he appeared with his queen on one of the sacrificial rituals with all the paint on his face).

Obviously, Ivar's twirled Viking hairstyle looks very similar to that of his brother Hvitserk's and their father's classic one. It's somewhat of a combination of several similar hairstyles but with a twist to it (pun intended).

Classic Viking Braid

Another variation of the classic Viking hairstyle Ragnar was sporting in the first seasons is this classic Viking braid Halfdan had. It is practical and requires less effort than Ivar's or Hvitserk's hairstyles as well as Ragnar's hairstyle.

The classic Viking braid will simply need you to grow out your hair, pull it back, and then braid it. Besides, you will not need to visit the hairdresser for quite a while as the braid can get longer without becoming a bother quickly.
