Lagertha is by far the most fierce female character on the acclaimed History Channel series Vikings. Some would even argue that she is more interesting than the heroines in Game of Thrones, but all such claims are always quite subjective.

Even though Vikings is a good show, there are other great fantasy series you can find. Nevertheless, almost nothing can top the costume design of Vikings, and Lagertha's outfits are proof of this. Here are Lagertha's 10 Best Outfits Of All Time.

Classic Farmer

At the beginning of the first season, both Lagertha and her husband Ragnar were merely farmers, but even during that time, Ragnar was already curious about other cultures and wanted to sail afar to conquer foreign lands. Lagertha, on the other hand, preferred a peaceful life.

Nevertheless, there were moments when Lagertha had to go in battle with her fellow Vikings, and that's when her warrior side showed. After all, she is a shieldmaiden extremely skilled in battle. This classic farmer look with her shield and weapons is still one of her best.

Dark Green Gown

After becoming the Countess of Kattegat and then while being the Queen of Kattegat (and Earl of Hedeby), Lagertha wore numerous outfits including gowns, dresses, shirts, pants, vests, and more. And all of them were absolutely gorgeous.

This dark green dress and gown are perfect as an outfit for colder weather. Its tone and hue go well with the forests that the Vikings usually go into for hunting, shipbuilding, and fighting. This is not the most extravagant of Lagertha's outfits, but it is one of the most beautiful ones nonetheless.

Blue Dress

One of the few truly bright outfits on the show is this blue dress Lagertha wears in one of the scenes where she admires Bjorn's baby and her grandchild. This dress actually tells us a lot about Lagertha and her transformation throughout the show and at that particular moment.

Historically, Vikings dyed their clothes in one of the four colors: yellow, red, purple, or blue. So far, blue clothes have only been found at the burial sites of wealthy individuals. This shows that Lagertha was transforming from a farmer to a countess and then a queen, which meant her wealth was growing along with her status.

Casual Warrior

Compared to her classic farmer look, the casual warrior outfit is bolder despite being more monotone. This time, Lagertha is not merely using weapons while being dressed in her regular clothes. Instead, she is fully ready for battle.

The pieces of clothing that make up this outfit look firmer and definitely thicker which means they will protect her better in battle. In addition to that, the outfit is also more suitable for colder weather while the classic farmer outfit had a thin shirt.

Wedding Dress

Who can forget this iconic scene? The wedding dress Lagertha wore as she was about to marry Kalf looked beautiful on her, but it was even more impactful after she reclaimed her status of Earl by killing Kalf who had earlier claimed the earldom on Hedeby while she was away in Wessex.

When Kalf confessed that he wanted Lagertha, she accepted his love but warned him that she would kill him one day. Despite being unable to bear children anymore, Lagertha claimed she was pregnant a while afterward. Once Kalf decided to marry her and everything was ready, she stabbed him to death.

Red Dress

Lagertha Red Dress

Another bright outfit Lagertha wore was this absolutely stunning red dress. This was also sometime during her earldom in Hedeby already after she took Astrid as her trainee and lover.

The simplicity of the dress is probably the reason why it is so beautiful. An outfit doesn't have to be outlandish to be gorgeous, and this red dress proves it. By the way, this is one of the few of Lagertha's outfits that would be practical in real life and that you can find online to purchase if you search hard enough.

Royal Dark Purple

Purple has always been considered a royal color. Even centuries before and after the Viking era's purple was considered a color worn primarily by royals, but some high-profile figures would also purchase clothes dyed purple.

Consequently, this royal dark purple dress speaks as much about Lagertha's transformation as the blue dress mentioned earlier. However, now she is displaying her status even more. The dress is also not very practical which means it is reserved for sitting, something rulers mostly do (rather than work, fight, etc.)

White Owl

Lagertha wears outfits of such kind only for important ceremonies and especially for sacrificial rituals. By the end of the ritual, she is covered in blood more often than not, which is a pity considering the outfits are always so beautiful.

This white dress and gown make Lagertha look somewhat like a white owl (probably because there is an owl sitting on her shoulder). You could even say that she looks more like a queen in this outfit than in some of the actual clothes she wears while being a ruler.

Dark Grey Dress

While Lagertha is in Wessex, many of her distinguishing characteristics change in some way including her clothes. One of her dresses which could be an honorable mention is the light beige and orange one she wears while with King Ecbert.

But the dress she wears in Wessex that fits her even better is this dark grey one. It is somewhat of a mix between her warrior outfit, her royal gowns, and some elements specific to this foreign land that she is staying on. And the best part? She feels like a completely different character (in a good way).

Royal Dark Blue & Grey

Lagertha's best outfit so far is definitely her royal dark blue and grey dress and gown. The first time she wears it is an extremely important scene that has a revelation for one of the other main characters.

Lagertha has become the Earl of Hedeby and goes by the name of Earl Ingstad. Ragnar has no idea about this, so once they meet, he is pleasantly surprised. This scene is significant because it shows that Lagertha is becoming more and more independent from her ex-husband, but both of them are still attracted to each other to some extent.
