Everyone has a favorite Disney princess. And if you say you don’t, you’re lying. We watched the Disney princesses when we were growing up. In certain ways they shaped us. They taught us how to be kind to others. They taught us how to persevere in the face of adversity and to be gentle no matter our circumstances.
Because of the popularity of Disney princesses, in recent years, artists have taken to drawing them in new and inventive ways. Some artists have drawn them as real people, some have drawn them as adults, and some have even imagined them as anime characters.
Artist Maryam Safdar has put an interesting spin on the age-old characters. She takes the princesses that we know and turns them into anime heroines!
Just look at the drawing that she did of Belle. In the film “Beauty and the Beast,” Belle was seen as quiet, but happy-go-lucky. She never let on to any of the sadness that she must have been feeling after becoming Beast’s prisoner. In the anime version, her eyes carry a sadness that adds depth to Belle’s character.
Her drawing of Ariel is also amazing. Ariel was a mischievous little mermaid who was always sneaking away from her father to discover more about the world above the water. In the cartoon, Ariel looked extremely innocent, but in the anime version, there is a twinkle of that mischief in her eyes which is interesting to see.
Artists have a way of making things their own. These anime princesses are no different. Want to see what some of your favorite cartoons look like reimagined as anime? Stay tuned to 10 Disney Princesses Reimagined as Anime. You won’t believe what Pocahontas looks like!
