10 Actors Who Refused Disney Princess Roles

Every young girl dreams of growing up and becoming a Disney Princess. These royal characters wear beautiful gowns, have perfect hair and makeup, and their story always has a fairy tale ending. But for some actresses, they were handed Disney Princess roles on a silver platter, but they ended up shocking us all by rejecting the offer. Here are a few of the celebrities who refused to take on Disney princess roles.

Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald is the voice of Merida in the 2012 film “Brave.” Although we think she did a fabulous job voicing the free-spirited character, she wasn’t Disney’s first choice for the film. Reese Witherspoon initially accepted the role, and she immediately hired a voice coach to help her nail Merida’s Scottish accent. Sadly, Reese was never able to perfect the accent, and she said her voice and dialect was so bad, she was forced to quit the film.

With the role of Ariel up for grabs in the 2017 live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid,” Disney has found it difficult to find the perfect actress to play everyone’s favorite mermaid. Elle Fanning was in the running to play Ariel, but for an unknown reason, she backed out of the project. We would’ve loved to see her wearing the mermaid tail and seashell bra, how about you?

Actress Chloe Grace Moretz signed on to play Ariel in the 2017 live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.” She even posed for a promotional photograph as Ariel, complete with her mermaid tail and all. But before we could even get hyped up to see Chloe on the big screen, she backed out of the film. Her decision was based on her desire to “reassess” who she was as an actress, so she pulled the plug on “The Little Mermaid,” and every other upcoming film she was cast in.

We think Anika Noni Rose did a wonderful job as the voice of Tiana in the 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog.” But she wasn’t Disney’s first choice to play the character. Many celebrities were in the running for the lead role, including Beyonce, and Disney required everyone to audition multiple times. According to rumors, Beyonce expected an offer for the lead role, but she didn’t want to audition for the part, so she backed out of the film entirely.
