Seth Rogen announced that he will be producing the upcoming horror movie, Video Nasty — here's everything we know so far about its release date, cast, and story details. The title is based off of horror movies that have fallen under the category of and have been referred to as "video nasties" due to their obscene contents. While it is an lesser known term used to refer to movies such as Friday The 13th and Night Of The Living Dead, the timelessness of the zombie and slasher sub-genres have drawn new attention to it in the 21st century.

The term "video nasty" was first used in the United Kingdom to refer to exploitative horror movies during the 1980s. It was common that these movies were sent to release direct to video cassette due to their contents, which qualified them as too violent or obscene for theaters and drive-ins. When they were released on VHS, they were able to release as is without making any of the requested cuts that would allow for public viewing. As a result, video nasties ended up on the shelves of now defunct video rental stores and at the disposal to children of all ages. While the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association (NVALA) attempted to avoid anyone from seeing these movies by restricting theatrical release, their efforts were counterintuitive when directors bypassed their request for cuts and took their work straight to the video store.

While Seth Rogen isn't known for dabbling in the horror genre, it could be his major break into it. He has acted in several popular comedies such as Knocked Up and This Is The End, alongside fellow comedian Jay Baruchel, who recently released his own slasher movie in 2020, Random Acts Of ViolenceWith the popularity of slashers as well as the numerous comedians who have ventured into the genre of horror, it's the opportune moment for Seth Rogen to take on Video Nasty.

Video Nasty Story Details

Video Nasty will follow three teenagers who stumble upon a VHS tape. After viewing it, they discover that it is cursed and has transported them into a 1980s slasher movie, similar to 2015's The Final GirlsIt is likely that it will feature an abundance of gore as well as a wealth of obscenity based on its predecessors' contents that fall under the category of video nasties. Despite being a relatively new announcement in November 2020, Seth Rogen's Video Nasty is already a highly anticipated addition to the horror genre.
