The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was unfortunately indefinitely delayed, but that doesn't make the memories of siding with the dark side any less memorable for veteran players. In the 2000s video games began implementing systems that affected a player's playthrough just by the decisions they made rather than how they played. A popular example would be the Karma system. Do a good thing, and earn good karma. Do a bad thing, earn bad karma.

Not every game has that particular system, but they do share something in common, even doing bad things grants rewards. Such a system was good for most players, as they were able to do whatever they wanted and get rewards rather than just punishments. So much so that doing the bad thing is sometimes even more rewarding than doing the right thing.

Skyrim is one of the best RPG games that can be played in VR. And it's not exactly hard to see why either as the game has so many options for players to go through that it is one of the best examples of what an RPG game should be. Sure players could travel through the world of Skyrim doing good deeds, becoming the legendary hero the game wants them to be.

Or, they could act maliciously. They could even come across missions that are objectively evil, such as submitting to the evil god Molag Bal. Though in that exchange the players are granted the evil god's weapon, a powerful mace that does extra damage and seals souls inside crystals.

Mass Effect

The Mass Effect series is popular for its freedom of player choice in the vast space it presents. Because of that, there are two routes a player can go down, each with its own respective endings and opportunities. Firstly, the Paragon. Do good things and get rewards for doing such things, whether it's resources or a positive relationship with others.

Then there is the Renegade route. To go down such a route players will need to pick the vilest options. This path however can be rewarding on its own as the player wouldn't be subjected to following norms for the sake of building relationships. And if they really didn't want to spend the game appeasing others, they could just blow everyone up.

Fable

As one of the best fantasy video games, Fable's cartoonish style often gives players the impression that it's an innocent game for younger audiences. And while that's true to an extent, players have the option to act cruelly if they wish. And often they'll be rewarded for it. They could either steal from others for gold and valuables or even sacrifice followers just for a powerful weapon.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has unarguably become one of the bestselling video games of all time. As nowadays there aren't too many ways for players to be able to experience a somewhat authentic experience of what it's like to be a cowboy in the old western days. At least nothing like Red Dead Redemption 2, a game so polished there really isn't another game to compare it to.

In this game, there are several choices for the protagonist Arthur Morgan to make. He can either be a good cowboy or a ruthless outlaw. The latter option often results in the player receiving an abundance of money. Though it often comes at the cost of everyone disliking them. Robbing trains for even more money is viable but likewise results in more negative karma.

Bioshock

Big Daddy from the Bioshock series

The Bioshock world is a setting packed to the brim with extensive lore and stories, enough for the first title to be declared as one of the best steampunk video games ever. Though to survive in the terrifying world full of supernatural beings and dangerous machinations of mankind, the player will need great strength. The question is what are they willing to do to earn it?

One example of desperation a player can commit for strength is in the first title, as early in the game the player will be presented with the option to consume children or save them. Choosing the former packs the player's pockets in resources that could be converted into strength. Though that trend of evil doesn't stop there as the farther the player goes the more options are presented to them.
