With the next generation of gaming out in the form of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the latest line of PC graphics cards, the next year is an exciting one for new video game releases. The 2022 slate is packed with several new and high-profile releases, but there are also some noteworthy remasters and ports of beloved games.

Some of the upcoming titles include almost-forgotten cult hits from decades ago as well as modern classics. Nintendo isn't being left out either, though, as some of those old-school and modern classics look to be making their way onto the Switch as well.

Even after nearly seven years from its initial release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still stands as one of the best modern fantasy RPGs. CD Projekt Red's trilogy-closer helped put author Andrej Sapkowski's beloved books on the international map, bringing fans an enthrallingly dense dark-fantasy world. It's celebrated for its rich lore and worldbuilding, excellent narrative, and compelling characters. Now with Netflix's smash-hit live-action adaptation, The Witcher 3 is set to receive more time in the spotlight with a remaster for the new generation of consoles and PC hardware.

Developers Saber Interactive -- who made the impressive Nintendo Switch port of the base game -- is at the helm of this remaster, along with some free Netflix-inspired DLC packages. It's anyone's guess, but fans are likely betting on an official Henry Cavill-inspired skin for Geralt of Rivia will be included. The remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition is set to release in Q2 2022 for PS5, XSX|S, and PC. Also worth noting is that owners of the current PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions will receive it as a free upgrade.

Batman: Arkham Knight RTX Remaster (PS5, XSX|S, PC - Speculation)

Though it's speculation as of now, the massive Nvidia GeForce leak has had several of the listed titles get confirmed so far. God of War, Uncharted's PC ports, and more have been proven concrete, and among the list was Batman: Arkham Knight RTX Remaster. Considering that he's one of DC Comics' most popular superheroes -- as well as the upcoming The Batman movie -- it wouldn't come as a surprise for this to pan out eventually, too.

Each of the praised Batman: Arkham games brought something great to the series that redefined the superhero genre in gaming, and Knight gave fans a stunning, neon-gothic Gotham City that ranks as one of the best open worlds. Likewise, the story brought the Dark Knight's saga to an emotional and explosive conclusion. The wording of this potential remaster is intriguing, as it would suggest a focus on PC since "RTX" refers to Nvidia's latest graphics cards. However, it'd be likely that this would see an equivalent for PS5 and XSX|S.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS4, Switch, PC)

Atlus practically shadow-dropped Persona 4 Golden on PC via Steam in summer 2020, and it seems like the publisher/developer is slowly realizing the market available on the platform. While Nintendo fans are surely still waiting on a possible Switch port for it, it's been confirmed in the meantime that the spin-off fighting game Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is being ported next.

The game was a team effort between Atlus' development crew and acclaimed fighting game developer Arc System Works for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013-14. It received a strong critical reception and featured a story that took place two months after P4 and three years after P3. On top of PC, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is also being ported to PS4 and Switch on March 17th.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition (PS4, XBO, Switch, PC)

Another confirmation from the Nvidia GeForce leaks was the remaster of the cult-classic Chrono Cross from the PS1 era. The game was originally released in 1999 for Japan and 2000 internationally for the PS1, and despite some fans having felt it was a jarring change from Chrono Trigger, it launched to critical acclaim.

The latter is commonly regarded as one of the greatest 16-bit JRPGs, but Cross was well-received on its own merits for its bizarrely-charming new story. It's being remastered as Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition and includes expected graphical improvements and quality-of-life enhancements, as well as a text-based adventure side story. This remaster will release for PS4, XBO, Switch, and PC on April 7th.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection (PC Port)

While the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection has technically already been released, it's currently only out on PS5. This collection includes remasters of both A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy -- the spinoff starring the fan-favorite Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. They're some of the best video games to play this month, but other fans are still waiting on the PC port.

Legacy of Thieves Collection was another reveal from the Nvidia leak, and Sony confirmed that the PC version would release later in 2022. The Uncharted series quickly became one of PlayStation's most acclaimed exclusives, being praised for its endearing characters and grand, swashbuckling atmosphere akin to the Indiana Jones movies. This release will surely be great news for fans on PC eager to gain access to more of PlayStation's celebrated tentpole IPs.

Grand Theft Auto V (PS5, XSX|S)

Developer/publisher Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto franchise has been a video game icon for many years already. And, in particular, Grand Theft Auto V has garnered a similar reputation to Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for being endlessly re-released. The game was originally released back in 2013 for PS3 and X360, then was remastered/ported to PS4 and XBO in 2015.

Nonetheless, the game was well-received for its addictive gameplay loop and sandbox open world, as well as the creativity and replayability it granted players. The next version has seen some delays, but the Grand Theft Auto V remaster/port for PS5 and XSX|S is finally set to launch on March 15th.

Batman: Arkham Collection (Switch Port - Speculation)

Though unrelated to the famous Nvidia leak, another retailer seemingly leaked the Batman: Arkham Collection being ported to Nintendo Switch, per IGN. The Arkham Collection specifically refers to the main Rocksteady trilogy -- AsylumCity, and Knight -- which means that, unfortunately, WB Games Montréal's prequel Origins is once again seemingly ignored. Regardless, Rocksteady's games were arguably the best the franchise had to offer, and it's somewhat surprising that this would include the graphical powerhouse that is Arkham Knight.

The assumption from fans is that Knight (or City and Knight) would be cloud versions that stream onto the Switch. It's great for Nintendo fans to potentially get these classics on a more modern platform, especially with the added option of being handheld. However, others will be reasonably disappointed if any of these games would be relegated to the performance-hindered and online-tethered cloud. The leaked page has a placeholder date of August 31st, which could suggest a late-summer release.
