The Venture Broswhich ran on Adult Swim for 7 seasons, has been canceled. The popular animated television show ran on Cartoon Network's nighttime, adult-oriented program block called Adult Swim. The series began in 2003, and quickly garnered a cult following as it explored the various, bizarre adventures of the Venture family.

The Venture Bros. season 7 premiered in 2018, and was praised by critics for its clever, if occasionally convoluted, storytelling. Season 7 not only provided closure for the Blue Morpho arc from the previous season, but furthered Hank and Sirena's relationship, as well as addressed questions surrounding the Guild of Calamitous Intent. A series of deleted scenes, including several depicting the Venture family quarreling with each other and Dr. Orpheus, was later released in 2019, but fans have been waiting for another season since then.

Unfortunately, The Venture Bros.' co-creator Jackson Publick took to Twitter earlier today to announce that the series had been unexpectedly canceled. Publick - which is the pseudonym for American writer and director Christopher McCulloch - wrote that the team received news of the cancelation several months back, which was "highly disappointing" for everyone involved. That being said, he also thanked fans for the past 17 years of support and signed off from the tweet saying "as always, We Love You." You can see Publik's heartbreaking tweet below:

Publik's tweet also confirms that The Venture Bros. writers had been in the middle of drafting season 8 when they learned of the cancellation. This is particularly frustrating for fans, many of whom expected season 8 to wrap up the loose ends of the previous season. Fans hoped that season 8 would further examine the relationship between Rusty and the Monarch, now that the duo had discovered they were brothers. Season 8 was also expected to delve into The Monarch's new villain status, as well as continue to explore the Guild of Calamitous Intent. As such, it's clear that The Venture Bros.' cancellation is a particularly difficult pill to swallow, especially considering the many stories that remained to be told.

While few can deny that The Venture Bros. had a strong 17-year run, this is truly a case of a good show that's been canceled too early. Although Adult Swim has decided to pass on the series' continuation, The Venture Bros. may yet find a new home, be it on a different channel or even a subscription streaming service. For the meantime, though, it's clear that The Venture Bros. is one show that will be sorely missed on Adult Swim.
