One of Tom Hardy's trainers for Venom, Mark Mene, has been hyping up the symbiote-stuffed Spider-Man spinoff in a big way. Mene and Nathan Jones trained Hardy in boxing, kickboxing, and MMA fighting for the film, helping prepare the British actor for his central role as the violent villain Venom (who comes into being when photographer Eddie Brock bonds with an alien symbiote).

Production has finally started on Sony’s Venom film, after years of rumors and rumblings. Although fans haven’t seen any footage of Hardy in character as of yet, Hardy has posted some teasing images online. His role will blend motion capture technology with real-life stunt work, with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer stitching it all together.

An interesting video has popped up on the web (via Tom_Hardy_Italia), with Jones and Mene talking about their time with Hardy. Mene describes Hardy as “humble” and “down to Earth”, and he finished the video by offering this tantalizing tease to get viewers hyped for the movie (see the clip below):

“What the world is going to see is one of the darkest, most powerful supervillains that Marvel has ever created. It’s going to be carnage.”

Mene also mentioned that, in tackling this role, Hardy is “dealing with a guy that turns into an 8’ 4’’ beast”, a statement that hints at the sheer size of Hardy’s post-transformation state. It sounds like this fresh cinematic take on the Venom character will be massive, dark and truly powerful. It should be fun to watch this beast in action. It will probably be a little while before a Venom trailer arrives online, so fans will have to wait patiently for a proper glimpse of Hardy’s character and his fighting style.

However, as much as this video is mainly about showcasing the trainers' work and hyping up Hardy, there is one word at the end that is load with meaning for fans: “carnage.” Marvel fans will know that there is a symbiote-wearing villain in the comics by the name of Carnage. He is the combination of a mass murderer and a red symbiote, and he is often portrayed as a rival to Venom. Rumors have already suggested the Carnage will show up in the Venom movie, and this namedrop - intentional or not - is bound to fan those speculation flames.
