Warning! Spoilers ahead for Venom #8

In the latest issue of Venom, Eddie Brock is bringing Star Wars into Marvel's future with help from Kang the Conqueror. While Brock is now the King in Black in the Marvel Universe, he's now entered a whole new state of existence with the destruction of his physical body. Transcending both time and space, this new issue reveals that Venom will be receiving his own version of a Jedi master to help him learn how to travel the timestream (with lightsabers included).

Previously in Marvel's Venom, Eddie Brock's body was destroyed by the Life Foundation, leaving his son Dylan and his former symbiote Venom to become fugitives on Earth. However, Brock's status as the King in Black allowed his consciousness to survive through the symbiote hivemind he now rules, allowing him to control any symbiote across time and space. However, this is a feat easier said than done as he learns from other Kings in Black he meets in a symbiote sanctuary at the end of time. Created by the future King in Black known as Meridius, both Eddie and Dylan have become targets of this new villain who's been working behind the scenes to kill them both (in the present and future).

Now, the new Venom #8 from Al Ewing and Bryan Hitch sees Eddie attempting to get back to the present to help his son. However, all of his concentration only put his consciousness from the end of time to the 602nd century, right in the middle of Kang the Conqueror's empire. Entering a war-symbiote in the service of Kang, Eddie crosses paths with the time-traveling Avengers villain for the first time. However, from Kang's perspective he and Venom are old friends who've had multiple encounters. Before Venom realizes that Kang is trying to help him, the two battle it out using time-swords (which look exactly like lightsabers).

Following their "lightsaber duel", it's revealed that Kang's time-sword is actually a tool to help Venom become more stable despite his time-spanning consciousness. Determining to train Eddie in the finer points of time travel, Kang has essentially become Venom's new Jedi master to help him navigate the symbiote hivemind going forward, rather than randomly jumping from era to era by chance. With Kang's instruction, perhaps Eddie will soon be able to make it back to the present to help his son Dylan who's become the all-new Venom while Eddie's been trapped in the future.

While Venom and Kang's friendship is one few likely saw coming, it's quite engaging all the same. Eddie Brock's transcendence into such a powerful cosmic being is impressive on his own, but the fact that Kang the Conqueror has taken it upon himself to befriend and train the new King in Black is very exciting. While their methods of time travel may be different, it seems as though Kang is still the best option to guide Eddie Brock's Venom (even if his true motives are connected to Meridius). Here's hoping Venom's new Star Wars-esque adventure won't be his undoing as the series continues.
