Exclusive: How a Peter Parker Cameo Could Fit Into Venom

advertising

We may know some details on the scene Tom Holland's Peter Parker may show up in for Venom. Sony’s Venom, set to open October 5, marks the company’s first foray back into the world of Spider-Man since 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and since their agreement with Marvel Studios allowed Peter Parker and company to play in the larger sandbox of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Studios can utilize Sony-owned characters in certain films, Sony still holds the rights to hundreds of members of Spidey’s supporting cast and, seemingly, has big plans for many of them with the Tom Hardy-led Venom taking the lead ahead of planned films that will feature Silver Sable, Black Cat, Morbius the Living Vampire and more.

Since the announcement of the solo Venom movie, fans have questioned just how connected Sony’s Spidey films might be with the MCU films and while the studio heads have chimed in and rumors have made their way around, the truth is nobody really knows exactly what to expect. On the one hand, it’s difficult to imagine how a character like Venom, whose look and power set have a lot in common with Spider-Man, could exist in any recognizable way without a little bit of crossover. On the other hand, it’s clear that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios didn't have anything to do with the production of this film - the first of what producer Amy Pascal calls "adjunct" films to the MCU -  and it's hard to imagine they would allow the events of it to impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way. In either case, there are sure to be fans who are unhappy with either how connected the film universes are or aren’t, but it seems that the safest play would be something relatively minor allowing Peter Parker or even some classmates of his to cameo in the film in some way. And that's exactly what a report from Jon Schnepp in January indicated, that Peter Parker, not Spidey in costume, would make an appearance.

To that end we have an interesting tidbit about one scene in Venom that could possibly lend itself to this cameo. Before we go on, please know that this is in no way confirmation of a Peter Parker appearance in Venom, only speculation based on one scene in particular that we know was filmed.

We have heard from a source with knowledge of the production that a scene filmed inside the Atlanta building that doubled as the Life Foundation featured Riz Ahmed’s character, Carlton Drake, leading a field trip. While our source did not see or have knowledge of Tom Holland being on set that day, it is worth noting that the filming took place on private property, making it very difficult for anyone outside of the cast and crew to have access to the set to capture pictures or video.

Of course this film is set to take place in San Francisco, not New York, so it wouldn’t be just a trip down the road for Parker and his classmates; however, we’ve already seen them on a road trip to Washington D.C. in Homecoming and there are rumors that the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming may partially take place on European soil, so it’s not entirely outside of the realm of possibilities that students from the Midtown School of Science and Technology could find themselves on a visit to the Life Foundation.
