A new set video for Sony's Venom movie has hit the 'Net and it shows Scott Haze's mysterious character taking on Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. The film is partially based on the Venom: Lethal Protector six-issue comic book miniseries, and will focus on Brock living in San Francisco. The first official Venom image has confirmed that the villainous Life Corporation (led by Dr. Carlton Drake) from the Lethal Protector storyline will, in fact, be included in the movie.
While Venom is perhaps best known as a Spider-Man villain, Hardy's version of Eddie Brock/Venom will be an antihero, like the character is in the Lethal Protector comics. Hardy is joined by Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Brock's ex-wife, as well as Jenny Slate, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Woody Harrelson in as-yet unconfirmed roles. Details and more information about the film's story are still being kept under wraps but Hardy is taking his role very seriously, as his trainer has been hyping a "powerful" Venom in the movie, for fans to enjoy. If the latest Venom set video is any indication, however, Hardy might be ready to fight but Eddie Brock has a long way to go.
Heroic Hollywood shared a video that shows what appears to be the aftermath of a fight between Hardy and Haze's mysterious character. Hardy can be seen lying on the ground while Haze taunts him, with the two of them being observed by a mysterious third figure. With the easter egg in the first still from the film hinting that Brock will expose the Life Corporation's illicit experiments on people using symbiotes, could this scene be the aftermath of the reporter asking 'too many questions'? Even with Hardy playing a powerful character and behind the scenes footage hinting at some spectacular stunts (like a flaming motorcycle chase), the latest Venom set video paints Hardy's version of Eddie Brock in a vulnerable and grounded light - especially when compared to the Topher Grace version from 2007's Spider-Man 3. Between rumors that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will appear in Venom and speculation that the film will change up Brock's traditional comics backstory significantly, Hardy's iteration of Brock should indeed be a far cry from Grace's performance as the bitter reporter turned alien host.
Either way, it looks as if Brock will have his own troubles to deal with, with or without everyone's favorite web-slinging high school student hanging around him. Hardy's Venom social media photos paint a picture of a figure isolated but dedicated to getting to the truth, at any cost. From the looks of this new set video, doing so will have its consequences. For now, however, fans will just have to be patient and wait to find out exactly how much trouble Brock gets into while dealing with the sinister Life Corporation in the movie.
