After filming Venom, Tom Hardy needed two knee surgeries. The first Venom hit theaters in 2018 based on the Marvel Comics character in the title. It's considered the first movie in Sony's Marvel universe, which will be followed by Morbius in 2022 and Kraven the Hunter in 2023. It set the story up for the anti-hero, as Eddie Brock (Hardy) becomes the host of the otherworldly symbiote, known as Venom. It's directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and written by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel.

Despite the negative reviews, Sony invested in a sequel titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. It brings back Hardy in the lead role and acts as the second entry into Sony's Marvel universe. This time, Brock seeks to get back into his career as a journalist by doing a story on the serial killer named Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who becomes the host for a much more sinister symbiote than Venom, known as Carnage. While Marcel returns to write the screenplay, The Lord of the Rings' Gollum actor Andy Serkis has been brought on board to direct.

In an interview with Esquire, Hardy spoke about the Venom movies. He also talked about his upcoming Netflix movie titled Havoc. In particular, he discussed his excitement for the physicality of the movie, which he has been training for. The interview reports an accident that happened while filming the first Venom that left the actor needing two knee operations. Hardy said "my knees were f*cked." When he was shooting the second, Hardy was only eight weeks into recovery. However, he assured that he's in great shape and is doing well.

Tom Hardy As Host In Venom

Hardy initially moved into the spotlight with his role as US Army Private John Janovec in the mini-series titled Band of Brothers. His first entry into the film business was with Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down back in 2001. He would ultimately end up landing roles in three Christopher Nolan films, including InceptionThe Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk. One of his most recognized films is his performance as Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road. Since receiving an Oscar nomination in 2016 for The Revenant, the actor has continued to expand his filmography in diverse ways.

Especially when it comes to action movies that employ quick-cut editing, it can be easy to dismiss the physical nature of the work that comes with making the finished product. While Hardy didn't go into full detail regarding the mishap while making Venom, it's certainly concerning that he had to get two knee operations after completing the movie. To make matters worse, he was still in recovery while he was working on the second. He's very fortunate that he didn't make it any worse, but at least he is taking care of himself to ensure that he remains in good shape. With the release date for Venom: Let There Be Carnage quickly approaching, it will be exciting to see the final product.
