According to a new rumor, Venom has found its Carnage in the form of rising star Riz Ahmed. For Marvel fans, Sony's upcoming Venom film is something of a bittersweet proposition. On the one hand, the chance to finally see the character done justice on the big screen is an exciting prospect. However, for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are wary of Sony's shaky track record, any expectation is being tempered by past let-downs. Still, the presence of Tom Hardy in the lead role and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) behind the camera certainly makes the project enticing.

Outside of the the lead and the director, we've only learned a few key details about Venom. Set to shoot this fall and arrive next, the movie will channel a number of classic horror films for a unique spin on the comic book movie genre. It will also see Venom going up against his offshoot and counterpart, the maniacal Carnage. Word has since emerged that Rogue One's Riz Ahmed is being courted for a major role in the film. Although Ahmed's potential role in the film has yet to be officially confirmed, a fresh report may have already revealed the "secret."

Tracking Board is reporting that Ahmed will be playing the villainous Carnage in Venom. Their report comes from two separate sources, one stating the actor already has the part and another indicating that Sony are considering him for Carnage or another major role.

Ahmed has been making quite a name for himself over the past few years with roles in Nightcrawler and The Night Of. His star really took off from playing Bodhi Rook in Rogue One last year. His range is impressive, so any role he tackles in the film will help boost its credibility. As Carnage, however, he could bring something quite interesting to the role.

Carnage is both a propagation of the Venom Symbiote and the name used by serial killer Cletus Kassidy when he dons the organism. There's no word on if the Carnage we meet in Venom will be Kassidy, but it's likely as he's the main host in the source material. Across animation and comics, Kassidy has rarely been shown as anything other than a deranged and despicable individual obsessed with violence and murder. By having an actor the caliber of Ahmed in the role, some depth and shading could be brought to the performance.

Of course, Ahmed isn't the only name we've heard in conjunction with Carnage. Both Hamilton creator/star Lin-Manuel Miranda and Gotham's de factor Joker Cameron Monaghan have expressed interest in the role, along with plenty of fan support for both candidates. Ahmed, however, is the first name we've heard the studio is seeking. While this rumor could prove untrue, the possibility of Riz Ahmed taking on the role of Carnage in Venom is an intriguing one.
