As Venom and The Avengers prepare for Knull's arrival, writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman have revealed key details about the King in Black storyline. In Wraith #1, readers learn that Knull the God of Symbiotes has the opposite. There is a God of Light able to counteract Knull's darkness. It transported Wraith to Earth to send Eddie Brock a message. Before the introduction of Knull's opposite his power was seemingly unmatched. However, there is also one character that shares some of Knull's abilities on Earth: Dylan Brock, the son of Venom.

Dylan's conception has always been mysterious. He is the child of Venom and Anne Weying. Eddie Brock gave Anne the Venom symbiote to save her life. Residual symbiote DNA remained in Anne after it was returned to Eddie. This resulted in Anne's pregnancy and eventually Dylan's birth, making him the first true human-symbiote hybrid. His symbiote abilities do not come from being used as a host, they are a result of his own genetics. Unlike Eddie, Dylan doesn't need to be attached to a symbiote to use his powers, similarly to Knull, and that isn't the only thing the two have in common.

Dylan can also manipulate symbiotes from long distances just as Knull does. During the events of Venom Island Dylan remote-pilots the Venom symbiote. The Venom symbiote notes that he thought only the God of Symbiotes had that ability. During Cates's Venom run both Dylan and Eddie Brock have naturally developed awesome new powers. Venom had wings at one point and even learned to redirect energy through his arm creating a cannon. The Venom symbiote informed him that they grow more powerful when they are in close proximity to a hive. Knull is about to bring the entire planet of Klyntar to Earth, unlocking all sorts of new abilities for Eddie and Dylan Brock.

Knull's backstory has proven that he is one of the strongest villains Earth's heroes will ever face. It will take all of Marvel's heroes to stop the King in Black. Some of the upcoming tie-ins include Namor, Iron Man, and Hulk features. Even Black Knight is getting in on the action. Readers can expect an epic battle between Knull and his symbiote army and the heroes (and potentially villains) of Earth, but what comes after King in Black? Knull is a being so old that he existed before the current universe. He is so powerful that Earth's Mightiest Heroes feel threatened and scared. So what next if he is defeated?

If the God of Symbiotes is defeated by Venom and the heroes of Earth, then there is the small matter of an entire planet of symbiotes running amuck. Some will be protectors like Venom, and some will only be interested in bloodshed like Carnage. Without The God of Symbiotes to deal with, these symbiotes will lose the only purpose they had for hundreds of years. Symbiotes aren't inherently evil either so vanquishing them isn't the answer. They will need a leader if Knull The God of Symbiotes is defeated. Someone to ensure that they do not use their power for evil or attach to the wrong host. Who better than Dylan Brock, the boy born of the symbiote? Dylan is the only Symbiote that isn't completely tethered to Knull despite their connection. There is amazing latent strength within him and he has been learning alongside Venom throughout the arc. Dylan Brock may rise as the new King in Black.
