Warning! Spoilers ahead for Venom #28

The future for Venom and Eddie Brock does not look bright. Having been recently transported to a grim alternate Earth in the future within the pages of Donny Cates' Venom, Eddie, his symbiote, and his son Dylan are thrown for a loop when they find a world that has been completely overrun by an entire hive collective of symbiotes. Nearly every superhero has been overtaken by a symbiote, including the Avengers, and all of them serve one ruler, the Symbiote King known as Codex. Now, in the latest issue of the series, the true identity of Codex has been revealed.

In prior issues, Eddie and Dylan visited the Maker to get his help and knowledge as to why Dylan has such a strange connection over symbiotes, but things went haywire, as they were followed by a new villain known as Virus (whose true identity is also revealed in this new issue). The ensuing brawl caused damage to the chronal gateway the Maker had built, and the gateway pulled them all in. While the Maker was transported back to his home Earth, Venom, Dylan, and Virus were all sent to this alternate symbiote-dominated future. Their arrival caught the attention of the symbiote Avengers, and in the aftermath, Eddie and Dylan escaped into the sewers, while Virus was captured and taken to Codex.

Now, in Venom #28 from writer Donny Cates with art by Juan Gedeon, Codex has learned about Eddie and Dylan's presence from Virus and seems keenly interested in finding and capturing them at all costs. Likewise, Eddie and Dylan meet a group of resistance fighters, led by Eddie's old girlfriend, Anne Weying. On this Earth, Eddie died before ever meeting Venom, so Venom bonded with Anne instead. Along with her fellow resistance fighters, they've been doing all they can to thwart Codex and his forces. However, they are all shocked when they learn that Eddie's son's name is Dylan.

To Eddie and Dylan's shock, Dylan grows up to become Codex in this dark Earth's future. While the exact details as to how this came to be have yet to be revealed, it does logically make sense. Dylan's ability to control and manipulate symbiotes makes him the perfect candidate to become a ruler over an entire planet of them. It also now makes senes as to why Codex is so intent on capturing Eddie and Dylan. Codex would naturally be extremely interested in meeting Eddie and his son, given the circumstances.

This makes things very complicated for Venom and Eddie. While their best bet to get back home most likely involves joining the resistance, is Eddie prepared to fight the future version of his son, however dark he's become? Even more intriguing is what Dylan will do, now that's he's seen a version of what he could one day turn into. How did Codex come to be in the first place? One thing's for sure: Codex's true identity has created way more questions than answers, and Venom fans are no doubt on the edge of their seats wondering what's going to happen next.
