A new trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been released, and it shows Venom hiding when coming face to face with Carnage – but why? After a not-so-good introduction in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, the famous symbiote Venom got another chance with a solo movie that kickstarted the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, and while it wasn’t a hit with critics, viewers were a lot more welcoming. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom introduced the audience to Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock, who is coming back in a sequel titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Venom tells the origin story of journalist Eddie Brock, who during an investigation of the experiments at Life Foundation, ends up bonding with an alien symbiote, as the lab was experimenting on humans and symbiotic life forms. The symbiote, whose name is Venom, manifests around Eddie’s body as a monstrous creature and grants him special abilities, and together, they go after Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), leader of Life Foundation, and Riot, the symbiote he bonded with. In order to expand Sony’s Marvel universe and make way for Venom’s return, the post-credits scene in Venom set up the sequel by introducing Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who is set to become Carnage in the sequel.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage, then, will see Eddie adjusting to life as Venom’s host one year after the events of the first movie, and this new life hasn’t been easy for him (nor Venom). In an attempt to revive his career, and as seen in the post-credits scene of Venom, Eddie interviews serial killer Cletus Kasady, who later becomes the host of a symbiote known as Carnage, allowing him to escape prison after his failed execution. The second trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage gave fans a better look at Carnage and also showed that Venom is scare of him and decided to hide and not come out once the red symbiote was in front of him and Eddie – but why is Venom, a symbiote who eats people and can manifest as a giant, muscular creature, afraid of another symbiote like Carnage?

Carnage in Venom 2 Movie Trailer

Carnage and Venom have the same biology as both are symbiotes, and in the comics, he’s actually the offspring of Venom. As such, he’s more powerful than his “father”, and his bond with Kasady makes him a lot more violent than Venom. Because Kasady is a deranged serial killer, they share a sadistic personality and their bond is stronger than that between Venom and Eddie, and Carnage increases Kasady’s violent tendencies. Carnage, then, is more powerful, violent, and thus deadly than Venom, and became his archenemy in the comics. Now, with that in mind, and with Carnage showing a bigger size than Venom, multiple arms, and these taking the shape of weapons, it’s understandable that Venom decided to not come out when he saw his enemy so close. Luckily for Eddie, he managed to convince him to fight, but it might not be an easy battle for Venom.

The second trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage revealed a lot more than the first trailer did and dropped various hints at the story, its characters' motivations, where they’ve been, and the origin of some of them, particularly that of Carnage. Whether Venom will be scared of Carnage all the time or just during their first encounter is to be seen, but that also makes way for some comedic moments, which the audience expects after the tone of the first movie.
