Sony released the official Venom trailer for the movie's December Blu-ray and digital release, and it reimagines the Marvel film as a holiday-themed romantic comedy. Venom hit theaters in early October, officially kicking off Sony's Spider-Man spinoff franchise, which will follow a host of Marvel characters other than the famous wall-crawler. As such, there was a great deal of pressure on Ruben Fleischer's Venom to be a success. While the overall tone of Venom reviews was mixed-to-negative, Screen Rant's Venom review hinted at an imperfect, but exceptionally fun superhero movie. And it seems that although Venom may not have won over critics, it certainly was a hit with casual moviegoers.

So far, Venom has earned more than $822 million at the worldwide box office, recently passing Warner Bros. and DC Films' Wonder Woman to become the highest grossing superhero origin movie ever. That success has seemingly earned Venom a sequel, with Sony recently dating an unannounced sequel that many presume to be Venom 2. Before a sequel can get off the ground, though, Venom will come home and the trailer for the movie's Blu-ray and digital release plays into a fan-favorite aspect of the film.

Sony released the official Blu-ray and digital trailer for Venom, which reimagines the movie as a romantic comedy focused on the relationship between Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the symbiote known as Venom. Sony also revealed Venom will be released on digital Dec. 11 and 4k Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD on Dec. 18. Watch the trailer and see the box art for the Venom home release below.

What's notable about the trailer is that Sony seems to be embracing the fans' love of shipping Venom and Eddie Brock, with the pair being referred to using the portmanteau "Symbrock." Fans started shipping the two movie characters (which means that fans imagine the characters in a relationship - typically of a romantic nature) shortly after Venom was released in October. Venom Symbrock fan art started popping up on Tumblr, Twitter and other social media sites. Symbrock even became the top ship in Tumblr's Fandometrics shortly after the film's theatrical release. However, the Venom Blu-ray trailer is the first real indication that Sony is leaning into the Symbrock ship - at least, for marketing purposes.

Aside from the fun Sony is obviously having with the fans' love of Symbrock, the home release for Venom is also incredibly soon after its theatrical debut. The movie will be available on digital little more than two months after it hit theaters, and available on 4k Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD shortly after. Of course, it makes sense that Sony would want to capitalize on the holiday season when people are spending more. Plus, folks may have more time to catch up on movies they missed throughout the year, leading many to check out Venom on home release if they hadn't seen it in theaters. So, while it may seem incredibly soon for Venom to come home, Sony seems to have a smart plan to get more potential viewers interested in watching Eddie Brock's superhero origin story.
