The status of the Venom 3 script has been teased by franchise star Tom Hardy. Sony Pictures launched its hopeful Spider-Man villain cinematic universe in 2018 with the first Venom movie starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. After the film's massive box office haul, Sony fast-tracked a sequel, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage debuting in theaters in 2021. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film made Woody Harrelson's Carnage the main villain. The sequel earned better reviews and performed very well in theaters, which made Venom 3 look all the more likely.

Venom's movie future was initially drawn into question by Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene, which saw Hardy transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The scene did not amount to much, as Spider-Man: No Way Home only included Eddie Brock in a post-credits cameo that sent him back to Sony's Spider-Man Universe. This allowed Sony to later confirm plans for Venom 3, even though the announcement did not come with much information about the sequel.

Now, Hardy has provided the first tease of Venom 3's development. In a new Instagram post, the franchise star shared a photo of the front of Venom 3's script. Hardy co-wrote the script with Kelly Marcel, who returns to the franchise after developing the story for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. She served as a writer on both of the prior movies too. Hardy also blacked out the Venom 3 title, as he drew the symbiote's head over the top of it - with the anti-hero's tongue forming a "3" at the end.

It appears that Hardy and Marcel have made great progress on the Venom 3 story and script if the actor is beginning to tease it on social media. The sequel does not yet officially have a director, as Andy Serkis is interested in being involved but might be too busy to direct it. Sony has also not given Venom 3 a release date. If the script is nearly complete, then the sequel could begin filming next year and debut in theaters sometime in 2024 potentially. Hardy is the only cast member confirmed to return, although Michelle Williams expects to appear as She-Venom again.

One of the big questions hanging over Venom 3 is how the movie will connect to Sony's Spider-Man Universe. After Morbius' post-credits scene and with Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web on the way, there is a chance for the film to help tie Sony's plans together. There is also the hope that Venom 3 will be where audiences finally get to see Hardy's Venom fight a Spider-Man. It does not appear that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will be involved, but there is great speculation that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man could return to fight Venom. Hopefully, more updates on Venom 3 will not be too far away.
