The U.S. release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage is just around the corner, and to prepare for the upcoming film, Tom Hardy took to social media to ask viewers not to spoil the movie. Perhaps one of 2021's most highly-anticipated projects, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is the sequel to 2018's Venom. Starring Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, the antihero duo comes face-to-face with serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) after he becomes the host of a vicious symbiote, Carnage. Returning cast members include Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Reid Scott as Anne's fiancé, Dan Lewis. Also joining Venom: Let There Be Carnage is Naomie Harris, who plays Frances Barrison, a.k.a. Shriek.
Comic book readers were first introduced to Marvel's notorious odd-couple in a 1988 edition of The Amazing Spider-Man. Since then, Eddie/Venom have been portrayed as all sorts of things: Spider-Man's nemeses, morally ambiguous antiheroes, and in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer, a pair of chocolate-devouring roommates. Hardy's take on the character in 2018's Venom is widely loved by fans, but Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 featured a much darker version of Venom. Sony's recent Venom films are much lighter, with Venom acting more as a fish-out-of-water antihero rather than a villain. But with Venom: Let There Be Carnage teasing a darker, more sinister story, there's certainly potential for Venom to become much more than a "lethal protector."
Hardy asked fans to keep their thoughts about the movie spoiler-free by sharing a new poster of Venom via Instagram. In the image, Venom is shown shushing the viewer with the caption, "no spoilers." Check out the poster below:

Harrelson's portrayal of Cletus Kasady is a highly anticipated part of the sequel but fans of the comics and the MCU might be wondering something else: is Tom Holland's Spider-Man going to make an appearance? As of now, the answer is somewhat uncertain. In a recent interview, Serkis acknowledged that "everyone is desperate for Venom to meet Spider-Man," but would like to introduce Eddie to more villains before he meets Spider-Man. For now, it seems like Spider-Man and Venom could potentially crossover, but Sony and Marvel are keeping it a secret if that's the plan.
The Venom sequel was just one of many fall releases struggling to navigate through the highly contagious Delta variant. Its original release date of October 2nd, 2020 was initially pushed to June 25th, 2021, then to October 15th before finally landing on October 1st. After waiting so long for the return of Eddie/Venom, audiences will certainly have some high expectations for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. But based on Hardy's push for fans to keep the details surrounding the film quiet, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is sure to be worth the wait.
