Maximum Carnage comes to life in a new Venom 2 fan made trailer. After the surprise box office success of Venom, the sequel will bring back Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock along with a new villain in Woody Harrelson's Carnage. The arrival of Carnage was of course teased in the mid-credits sequence of the first movie.

First introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man comic books in 1992, Carnage is a symbiote who over the years has attached to a number of different hosts, most notably the serial killer Cletus Kasady (in Venom 2, Harrelson will indeed be portraying the murderous Kasady). Famously, Carnage was later the main antagonist of a series of Spider-Man crossover comics that saw the villain and his gang going up against Spidey, Venom and their Avengers-like crew of superheroes (Captain America even got in on the act). Appropriately named Maximum Carnage, the event ran for fourteen issues spread over various titles and ended with Carnage being defeated by Venom and thrown in prison.

Now, the Maximum Carnage storyline comes to life thanks to fan artist stryder HD, who has created a trailer that imagines what Venom 2 would look like as an adaptation of the comic book arc. See the trailer in the space below:

Eagle-eyed viewers will notice Emily Blunt making a cameo appearance in the trailer, as stryder HD used snippets from A Quiet Place to beef up the monster quotient in the clip. The trailer's best manipulation by far alters the famous Venom scene where Eddie Brock/Venom bites the head off a man trying to rob a convenience store so now it's Spider-Man himself being bitten.

A real Maximum Carnage movie would indeed require the presence of Spider-Man alongside Venom, but it's still a very open question whether the two comic book characters will ever appear together on-screen. Spider-Man of course remains a part of the MCU after Disney and Sony struck a deal, but Sony is seemingly still intent on getting Spidey and Venom together in a movie, and indeed Venom director Ruben Fleischer recently said the crossover will happen "eventually."

Fans certainly are excited at the prospect of a Venom/Spider-Man crossover, and Maximum Carnage would be a great storyline to adapt in order to make that happen, as it puts the two main characters on the same side with Carnage as the bad guy. It will be interesting to see what Venom 2 does with Carnage first, but it's possible the movie could in fact be setting up a real Maximum Carnage scenario at some point down the road. Some kind of team-up between Venom and Spider-Man does seem like the logical way to go if Sony wants to achieve maximum profits.
