A new report claims that Venom 2 may start filming in late November. After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to connect with critics, Spider-Man was recast with Tom Holland in the role and sent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Sony focused on making movies about Spidey's iconic villains. The first film Sony released in this series was last year's Venom starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock.
While Venom received mixed reviews at best, the film performed incredibly well at the box office, with Venom even breaking an all-time opening weekend record in October. With the film's financial success, a sequel was inevitable and in June, Amy Pascal confirmed Venom 2 was moving forward. Very little is known about the film right now, but Hardy is returning as Venom, along with Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Woody Harrelson as Carnage. Andy Serkis is set to direct and now it looks like the film may start filming sooner rather than later.
According to Production Weekly, Venom 2 is looking to start filming on November 25th. The working title for the film has also been revealed as "Fillmore."
Fans will likely be thrilled to hear that Venom 2 will go into production soon, but Spider-Man fans have really been in the need of some good news. After a financial dispute between Disney and Sony, Spider-Man was pulled from the MCU. This was a big blow to fans, as it meant that Spider-Man could no longer be an Avenger and now Marvel can't even mention Spider-Man again. There had been rumors for a while that Spider-Man might fight Venom at some point, but it's even more likely now that Spider-Man can't be used in the MCU. In fact, Sony is planning to put Spider-Man in their villain universe, but it's unknown when that will happen, or if it will happen in time for Venom 2.
It's no doubt a plus for Spider-Man fans that Venom 2 will start filming soon, but it's also good news for Sony since they really need a win right now. They were often the ones being blamed for Spider-Man leaving the MCU, even though Disney and Sony were both at fault for the situation. It's unknown whether Sony will try to fit Spider-Man into Venom 2 or save him for another film, but if he does make it into the movie, Venom 2 could do well at the box office and win over critics.
