Warning! Spoilers ahead for Venom #2

Marvel Comics' new Venom series is providing fans with double the symbiote shenanigans, offering the best of both Brocks. Having become the god-like King in Black after defeating Knull, Eddie Brock has ascended to a greater plane of cosmic existence. Meanwhile, his son Dylan has become the new Venom of Earth, operating in a much more grounded capacity as he learns to bond with the classic symbiote as its newest host. As such, Marvel's new series is effectively providing two very different stories, alternating between Eddie's cosmic journey and Dylan on the run as a fugitive.

Coming from writers Al Ewing and Ram V with artist Bryan Hitch, it looks as though Ewing and V will be tag-teaming this new Venom series with Ewing handling the Eddie side while V focuses on young Dylan. While Eddie Brock was seemingly killed in the series' first issue, it was revealed by the issue's end that while Eddie's physical body was destroyed, his mental connection to every symbiote across time and space has allowed him to survive within a new symbiote body. Now, it seems as though Eddie will be looking to find the new threat to the King in Black. However, while Eddie is now traveling the cosmos on his mission, his son Dylan believes he's gone for good. He's now bonded with Venom and on the run.

While the first issue focused on both Brocks, Venom #2 focuses largely on Dylan, who's still reeling from the apparent death of his father all while avoiding the agents of Carlton Drake and the Life Foundation. The issue also reveals that the Life Foundation is being supported by Senator Krane, the very same political figure who had merged with Carnage during the recent Extreme Carnage event. As a result, Dylan is doing all he can to evade the authorities alongside Venom and Sleeper, who've taken the forms of a dog and cat to remain under the radar. Dylan still has to reconcile the fact that Venom chose to save him and not Eddie, not even knowing that his father is still alive.

Venom-Dylan-Brock-Fugitive

The concept of a comic series that effectively alternates between writers and genres depending on the Brock being featured is quite impressive. While the stories will no doubt intertwine and connect as the narrative continues, fans are essentially getting two Venom stories in this series, providing an incredibly dynamic story. Eddie being off-world will give Dylan the space he needs to truly become his own Venom, and the same holds true for Eddie's role as the new King in Black.

In any case, Eddie Brock and his son Dylan have both become extremely dynamic characters in the Marvel Universe. To witness their new journeys in the same series that will no doubt intersect more and more as it continues will be a lot of fun. Here's hoping Dylan will rise to the challenge to be his own version of Venom while Eddie searches for the imminent threat to his new throne as the King in Black.
