In a new Venom: Let There Be Carnage deleted scene, Carnage threatens to eat Cletus Kassidy's face.  The sequel to 2018's Venom sees the return of Tom Hardy as journalist Eddie Brock as he faces off against Venom's classic foe, Carnage. Directed by Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released in October to mixed reviews.

The anti-hero's second outing saw the return of Hardy's Eddie Brock alongside returning star Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Woody Harrelson reprising his role of Cletus Kassidy/Carnage from Venom's post-credit scene. Serkis, best known for his role as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and pioneer of motion capture technology, was brought in to direct the film in 2019. When looking for a director, Serkis was Hardy's first choice after Sony moved forward with the Venom sequel. Now with the digital release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage available, audiences can explore content that didn't make the final cut.

In the newly released deleted scene from IGN on Twitter, Carnage's motivations are explored in greater detail. After a confrontation, while visiting Cletus Kassidy on death row, Eddie Brock/Venom creates the villain Carnage through Cletus' DNA, absorbing a piece of the Venom symbiote. With the help of Carnage, Cletus Kassidy escapes in search of his long-lost love, Francis Barrison/Shriek, played by Naomie Harris. These events set up the deleted exchange that pits Harrelson's Cletus against Carnage as the symbiote threatens to bite his face off in front of Shriek.

As with most deleted scenes that rely heavily on special effects, the character model of Carnage is not as fully rendered as he appears in the final film. However, the scene offers what seems to be an extended monologue from Carnage that deepens the character's desire to destroy Venom. While the scene ultimately did not make it into the film's final cut, it would have set up an exciting payoff in the finale had it been included. As the titular hero, Venom is ultimately following through on Carnage's threats to Cletus.

With Venom: Let There Be Carnage earning over 400 million worldwide and the post-credits scene leaving audiences with the potential for a Spider-Man crossover, Sony and Marvel are sure to continue Eddie Brock/Venom's story in future films. And with Tom Hardy eager to continue playing Eddie Brock/Venom in future installments, this probably isn't the last appearance of Carnage, whether in one multiverse or another. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now available on digital platforms and will be available on 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on December 14, 2021.
