Venom 2 drops four new character posters including one teasing the return of Michelle Williams’ She-Venom. The arrival of Spider-Man villain Venom to the realm of comic book movies was a surprisingly huge success for Sony. Starring Tom Hardy as symbiote host Eddie Brock, the 2018 Venom standalone film grossed an impressive $856 million worldwide.

Three years after Venom brought strong anti-hero energy to the realm of comic book movies while providing a smash hit for Sony, Hardy’s Brock is set to return in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Of course the original Venom also starred Williams as Brock’s ex-girlfriend Anne Weying, who herself found out what it feels like to host a symbiote when Venom merged with her, creating a character dubbed She-Venom. Thankfully for Anne but maybe not audiences, a kiss quickly sent Venom back to his original host, ending She-Venom’s brief appearance. Though Anne may have lucked out by hosting Venom for only a short period, Williams herself wished She-Venom had stuck around longer, and indeed later touted the idea of Anne hosting Venom for a longer stretch in the sequel.

That Venom sequel is indeed now set to arrive and there is still no official confirmation that She-Venom is part of the action. But Sony has provided a hint that She-Venom indeed appears in a newly-released character poster. The image is dominated by Williams’ Anne Weying, but at the bottom is a silhouette who definitely appears to be the female Venom. Of course the quartet of new character posters also features Hardy’s Brock, Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady aka Carnage and Naomie Harris’ Frances Barrison aka Shriek. It remains to be seen what other famous comic book characters might be in the film alongside the officially revealed ones but there’s been plenty of speculation about an appearance by the symbiote Toxin, given some hints dropped in trailers. There has also been inevitable talk of a possible cameo by Spider-Man himself as Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the MCU are drawn ever closer by the gravity of huge potential profits.

It indeed remains to be seen what big surprises Venom: Let There Be Carnage has in store for (non-early-screening) audiences when it arrives. An appearance by Toxin would obviously not be shocking given the hints that have already been dropped. She-Venom also seems almost certain to appear, but what’s not known is how big her role will actually be. If She-Venom only shows up for a brief bow in the film, it will be disappointing to a lot of people, including actress Williams. Hopefully Venom 2 gives She-Venom more of a chance to shine after she received her brief but memorable nod in the first movie.
