A terrifying Instagram post shows what Carnage might look like in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Sony's 2018 Venom was an undeniable financial success, pulling in over $856 million at the box office. Yet while Venom 2 was originally supposed to debut on October 2, 2020, the studio announced earlier this year that the film would be pushed back to a June 2021 release date.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage will star Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson as Venom and Carnage, respectively. Although Venom 2's plot is still largely a mystery, Harrelson is set to play the deranged Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who becomes the human host of alien symbiote Carnage. That being said, Carnage's appearance was teased in the first Venom movie, when one of the film's post-credits scenes followed Eddie Brock as he visited San Quentin Prison to meet with Cletus.
Digital artist Hibban Mohammed has uploaded a petrifying image, showing what Harrelson's Carnage might look like in Venom 2. The creation shows Carnage front and center, punching out at the camera. Harrelson's face has also been completely encased by the Carnage symbiote. Behind Carnage, the words "Let There Be Carnage" appear in bold, uppercase letters. In comic book lore, Carnage was developed to be Venom's greatest foe. Cletus is a remorseless killer; as a child, he murdered his own grandmother and tortured animals for fun. Cletus transforms into Carnage after the Venom symbiote produces a child, which subsequently attaches itself to him. It's also worth noting that Carnage has powers that extend beyond that of Spider-Man and Venom; for example, Carnage has the ability to shape his form into wings, limbs, and even weapons. As such, Carnage quickly turned into one of the most dangerous villains Venom has ever had to face.
While Carnage has been confirmed to be Venom 2's central antagonist, it's still unclear what this will look like. In addition, it's also uncertain what Carnage's origin story will look like, especially since Eddie Brock's was markedly different from the comics. At the end of the day, even if the origin story for Carnage changes, his unhinged, lethal nature will likely remain the same. It goes without saying that Venom: Let There Be Carnage's task of introducing such an infamous supervillain won't be an easy job, but it seems that the cast and crew are more than up for the challenge.
