Sony's Venom: Let There Be Carnage will release two weeks earlier than expected. The Tom Hardy led sequel was originally scheduled to be released last fall, but the pandemic forced Sony to delay the film into 2021. Let There Be Carnage stayed on its September release date for quite some time, but Sony chose to delay the film once again into October as fears surrounding the Delta variant continued to rise. Reports circulated once again that Venom: Let There Be Carnage would be delayed into 2022, but those were debunked by the studio who insisted the film would still hit its October 15 release date.
Earlier this summer it seemed like the box office was on the rebound. Hits like F9, Black Widow, and A Quiet Place Part II spurred confidence that the summer movie season could proceed as planned. Still, numbers began to dip as the summer wore on and the Delta variant began spreading. While there have been some promising showings from movies like Jungle Cruise and Free Guy, reports began circulating once again that studios were considering another major calendar shift for the rest of their major 2021 movies. This left Venom: Let There Be Carnage in a state of uncertainty, but the latest move from Sony should put that to rest.
The official Venom Twitter announced that Let There Be Carnage will hit theaters two weeks early. Instead of debuting on October 15 as planned, the film will now hit theaters on October 1. Sony also took time in the tweet to reiterate that Venom 2 will be an exclusive theatrical release. Check out the post below:

The surprise move comes after Marvel's Shang-Chi broke Labor Day box office records to earn $90 million over the four day weekend. It looks like the MCU's latest gave Sony the confidence it needed to move up the film and it may do the same for the mega-franchise. When reports circulated that Let There Be Carnage would be delayed, rumors swirled that Marvel was considering delaying their next blockbuster, Eternals. Now, it looks like Shang-Chi has put some fears to rest momentarily.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage will now officially kick off the fall blockbuster season, landing in theaters the same day as Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark. It will face some stiff competition in the following weeks, though, as the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, premieres a week later with Denis Villeneuve's highly-anticipated Dune debuting just a two weeks later. It will be interesting to see how the fall box office shakes out and whether or not it can recover from the late-summer slump that had everyone very worried.
