Morbius star Jared Leto hypes the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The sequel to 2018's Venom is directed by Andy Serkis and scheduled for wide release on October 1. Morbius, which is to be set in the same universe as the Venom films, is slated to premiere January 28, 2022.

Leto's film will be the third released as part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, which builds a continuity of films based around the friendly neighborhood hero and other associated Marvel characters. Though Tom Holland currently plays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony retains the rights to the character, and their agreement with Marvel Studios stipulates that he eventually be shared between the two universes. So far, however, the films under this banner have been focused around more villainous characters from the Spider-Man comics, with a Kraven the Hunter movie also currently in the works.

The franchise's second installment is just about to hit theaters, and Leto is clearly excited. The Morbius actor took to twitter to drum up some excitement for Venom: Let There Be Carnage amongst his followers by sharing the film's poster and release date, as well as a winking caption. Check out the original tweet below:

Leto cleverly celebrates the release of Venom 2, which stars Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson, while also creating anticipation around his own film. The actor and musician will play Michael Morbius, a scientist whose attempt to cure his own rare blood disease leaves him with many symptoms of vampirism, including superhuman abilities and a thirst for human blood. Cast alongside him are Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Adria Ajona (Good Omens), and Jared Harris (Mad Men). Additionally, in a notable crossover, Michael Keaton will reprise his MCU role as the Spider-Man villain Vulture.

While fans are eagerly anticipating Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the first reactions to which have praised its embracing of gonzo-fun, many are unsure of what to expect from Morbius. Leto's previous foray into the world of superheroes resulted in a portrayal of Joker in Suicide Squad that Warner Bros. has essentially jettisoned, and while reactions were overwhelmingly negative to that film, his reappearance in Zack Snyder's Justice League was better appreciated by fans. If Leto follows the leading-man example set by Hardy, however, his performance is sure to be full of interesting, unexpected choices.
