Get into the holiday spirit with Venom’s 10-hour yule log video. 2018 was a very good year for Venom, with his solo movie becoming a smash hit worldwide. The movie itself attracted mixed reviews, and in many ways, felt like a throwback to early 2000’s comic book movies like Daredevil or The Hulk. That said, the weirdly endearing relationship between Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the Venom symbiote struck a chord with audiences, and helped paper over the movie’s various faults.

The Venom movie has been a long time coming too, with different concepts being proposed over the last 20 years. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) first wrote a script for New Line back in 1997 with Dolph Lundgren tipped to play Venom, which ultimately went nowhere. A solo movie was supposed to follow Venom's live-action debut in Spider-Man 3, which was cancelled following the movie’s lukewarm reception, and then Channing Tatum was reportedly very eager to play the role in a spinoff to The Amazing Spider-Man series.

The success of Venom proves the character has a huge fanbase, but surprisingly there was little in the way of merchandise to greet the movie's release. Hasbro opted not to create a line of toys, but Wal-Mart recently paired an exclusive Venom action figure with their Blu-ray copy of the movie, with Sony even creating a retro toy commercial for it. Now Sony has given the antihero his very own 10-hour yule log video, which features a classy Venom portrait hung over the fireplace and a seemingly bottomless cup of hot coco.

Themed yule log videos have become an increasingly popular holiday season trend, and while Venom’s video doesn’t do much to stand out from the crowd, it’s oddly relaxing in its own way. Venom co-creator Todd McFarlane recently chimed in on the movie’s critical reception, stating he felt the majority of critics were outside of Venom’s target audience – or basically too old – to get the appeal of the film. McFarlane also gave his opinion on Spider-Man 3’s portrayal, where he felt the character was much too small to serve as a genuine threat.

When Venom was first announced, it was assumed the movie would be a bloody, R-rated take on the character, but it was later confirmed the movie was always intended to be PG-13. While some fans hoped there might be a darker, unrated version made available for the movie’s home release, director Ruben Fleischer recently stated he felt no real need to put one together since the theatrical cut was so well received.
