Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 78!

In the manga world of Dragon Ball SuperGoku and Vegeta have a strained relationship that fans love to see play out, and now Goku has just made it even more awkward after giving Vegeta’s most powerful form a nickname he doesn’t care for one bit. Suffice it to say, giving Vegeta any nickname that isn’t Prince of All Saiyans is probably a bad idea no matter who coins the term, especially when it's coming from his forever rival.

As seen in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 78: Gas’s Wish, by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, Goku and Vegeta are currently at a stopping point in a battle against the overpowered fighter known as Granolah; a fight that has left them far worse for wear. Licking their wounds as Granolah fervently discusses some recent revelations about his clouded past from the elder Namekian named Monaito, Goku and Vegeta notice that the sky has gone dark, much like the way it does whenever these seasoned Z Warriors utilize all seven Dragon Balls to summon their own iconic dragon.

Suddenly met by the newly minted “strongest warrior in the universe, ” Gas, after making a wish to be just that, this near-omnipotent villain arrives on the scene and makes an entrance worth noting. Taking down Granolah with ease only to neutralize Goku with conjured energy shackles, Gas is at a level that no one can hope to match nor exceed; a problem for Goku and Vegeta as they can’t afford to take a loss with this one. Remembering that Vegeta has a senzu bean stashed away in his discarded armor, Goku then tells him to go grab it in a last-ditch effort to hopefully have a fighting chance against Gas, slipping in a nickname for Vegeta that the Saiyan Prince isn’t too pleased about.

Goku gives a nickname to Vegeta's Ultra Ego form

Agreeing to retrieve the senzu bean, Vegeta tells Goku, “Very well. Don’t die Kakarot,” to which Goku gives a thumbs up and cheekily responds, “You can transform into freaky-face mode and beat Gas!” immediately annoying Vegeta to no end. Blasting off to go distract Gas, Goku leaves Vegeta stewing in his frustration as he talks to himself by saying, “Freaky-face mode…? It’s called Ultra Ego you fool!” quickly expressing his displeasure with his new (highly accurate) nickname in the most Vegeta-like way possible.

Recently transforming into his version of Goku’s near omnipotent Ultra Instinct form during the preceding fight with Granolah, Vegeta’s Ultra Ego form is as wildly powerful as it is hilariously “freaky.” Essentially becoming an overpowered tank of a fighter, this new form turns Vegeta into a nearly unstoppable destroyer who — like Goku draws attention to with Vegeta's latest nickname — looks pretty weird when it comes down to it. Sporting the bulky no eyebrow look of Goku’s iconic Super Saiyan 3 transformation, Vegeta’s hair stands a bit more wild and spiky as well, perfectly encapsulating the freaky look that Goku succinctly describes before he flies off to deal with Gas.

So although Vegeta is a guy that doesn’t care for much outside of this new nickname he despises, it can’t be denied that Goku calling his Ultra Ego form “freaky-face mode” is actually super spot on. Goku and Vegeta might egg each other on to get the most out of their rival, but calling Vegeta’s coolest form something that he can’t stand is a hilarious addition to their ever-evolving dynamic. Just don't let any of the other Z Warriors know.
