There aren’t very many TV shows that do politics well, and even fewer handle current events with any sort of grace. However, Veep is refreshing in how it handles the life inside the White House, even more so with how it affects everyone with campaigns being on the road. It takes you through failed elections and minor victories that add up over time.

The show aired for seven seasons and had fans praising the show for its realistic depictions. Still, no show would be complete without a supporting cast, and we'll be going over Selina’s best employees that eventually helped her become president.

Dan Egan

Dan Egan has a soft spot in our hearts for sure. He acts as the Deputy Director of Communications in Selina’s office. He is known for being very ambitious and cut-throat and takes major pride in how his networking skills affect the White House. He serves as Selina’s campaign manager until he is forced to resign for having a breakdown over multiple crises in the campaign.

He seems to always be there whenever Selina needs a helping hand, and he’s by her side for every election that she goes through. He leaves in the later seasons to be an anchor before finding himself working for her once again.

Michael McLintock

Mike blinking in Veep

Mike has been by Selina’s side since day one, and he makes sure she knows that he is there for every step of the way. He acts as her Director of Communications before becoming the White House Press Secretary. He hilariously slacks off from work from time to time, claiming that he has a pet dog that needs constant attention.

He even takes the time to write his boss’s biography before a serious scandal followed soon after when he leaves the diary that he researched everything from. He is known for having peaked earlier in his career, and, even though he is lazy, he makes sure to live up to Selina’s standards.

Amy Brookheimer

Amy serves as the Vice President Chief of Staff, and her loyalty to the VP is shown in every episode. She credits herself as the glue that keeps everything together, and that isn’t an understatement in the slightest. She routinely sacrifices her career for her boss’s credibility. She isn’t one to settle down, and many would call her overly dedicated to her career in office.

She is also another employee that was entrusted with running Selina’s campaign, which is something that only her closest friends get the privilege to do. Her character was the definition of a true supporting role.

Ben Cafferty

Ben has acted as the White House Chief of Staff for both Selina and the president that came before her. He’s a high-functioning alcoholic, who is still able to get his job done and be the best at it. This leaves him as a highly feared man throughout Washington.

This also means that the man is respected in his profession, and he is seen as one of the wisest members in the cabinet. He is extremely insightful, and he sees Selina as a very close friend, despite her calling him a “burned out loser.” These words came back to bite her, as he stayed with her after having planned on leaving for years.

Gary Walsh

Tony is Selina’s right-hand man to a degree. He is her personal aide and her body-man. Body-Men are agents that are assigned to travel everywhere the VP or the President go, and often. He is responsible for lodging, travel and how they interact with the media.

He helps her do every action she takes, and he is one of the longest friends Selina has in her cabinet. Even when she loses her election, he decides to stick with her. Their relationship is one of the most wholesome in the entire show, and we can see why she keeps him around.

Kent Davidson

Kent is a numbers man. His devotion to his job and his lack of care for anything else leads others to label him cold and robotic. He serves as the Senior Strategist to the President, and his love of the job had bad results for the president’s decision making in the earlier seasons.

Selina initially wanted nothing to do with him until she began to really see how useful he is. His knowledge in statistical data and his keen eye on the polls made him a vital addition to her Presidential administration. When she loses her re-election, he joins Congressman Jonah Ryan's staff.

Sue Wilson

Sue certainly lets her ego go to her head. She acts as the Vice President’s personal secretary, and she has a very no-nonsense drive about her. She often boasts she is the third most important person in the world, and, of course, this rolls some eyes in the White House. She is very close to Selina from having to schedule her days, and she remains in her position even after Selina loses office. Her character was modeled after DMV workers, who she says go strictly by the books, and they don’t lag around because they have so much to do in their workday.

Richard Splett

Richard Splett speaking in Veep

Richard is the one guy in the White House that is always joked about. Every time he’s on-screen, someone is dishing out a joke on his expense. He is very amicable, and he’s not always competent in the workplace, hence the jokes.

His commitment to the job, however, isn’t something that gets joked about. He is nothing but loyal to everyone under whom he serves. He helped Selina’s campaign by being Amy’s personal assistant before briefly joining Jonah to be his. He was hired as the new Chief of Staff under VP Selina and, although seemingly incompetent at times, he holds two doctorates from Yale.

Jonah Ryan

This guy is the truest definition of a “Fre-enemy,” and it’s something that he holds true to the very end. He starts off disliked by everyone that he works with, and he is fired in the earlier seasons for having a blog that he used to publish insider information, which is something that typically comes with an arrest at the level he was in.

His work as a liaison doesn’t fall short by any means, and, as much as he is hated, Selina can’t help but see his value in the position he is in; before he completely wrecks it.

Majorie Palmiotti

If anyone is going to take a bullet for Selina, it’s going to be Marjorie. It is her job, after all. She acts as Selina’s personal bodyguard and look-alike for those really hairy situations where it’s needed. The two had a very close relationship until she resigned because of the romance that was developing between her and Selina’s daughter, Catrina.

After not seeing her for some time, we find out she married Catherine before she gets the job offer to be the Director of the Meyer Fund. Her character arch was high, as we see her start to open up her cold shell.
