What To Expect From Veep Season 7

Veep season 7 is going to be the HBO series' final season - so what can fans expect? Having gone from vice president to president, to a political has-been desperate for a comeback, Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is in full campaign mode - not only running against the current Commander in Chief Laura Montez (Andrea Savage) but Jonah Ryan (Timothy Simons) as well.

In the Veep season 6 finale, Selina reached a major turning point. She and most members of her staff hit their own respective rock bottoms - from Dan Egan's (Reid Scott) failed career in television to his complicated rekindled relationship with Amy Brookheimer (Anna Chlumsky) - and it's all served as misguided stepping stones to a presidential campaign. Even though the odds - and most politicians - are against her, Selina is relentless in not only maintaining relevance, but securing a seat as one of the most powerful figures in the world.

Also starring Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Sufe Bradshaw, Gary Cole, Kevin Dunn, Sarah Sutherland, and Clea Duvall, Veep season 7 isn't just marking a new beginning in Selina Meyer's career, but the end of an era. As her potential ascent to the US presidency begins, so ends seven years of the award-winning series.

Veep Season 7 Story

Timothy Simons in Veep

In Veep season 6, Selina spent the bulk of her time not only coming off the loss of the last presidential election, but attempting to secure her legacy. In Veep season 7, she's thrown caution to the wind and is in the midst of a presidential campaign. And, as if her foundation for running wasn't problematic enough, she'll be facing the least likely opponent: Jonah Ryan. HBO even created fake campaign sites for both candidates, positioning Selina in support of "Adult Literacy, AIDS, the Advancement of Global Democracy, and Assistance to our Military Families, and Fighting Childhood Obesity," while Jonah is viewed as "The Outsider's Insider."

Julia Louis Dreyfuss in Veep Season 7

Despite Selina's attempt to rejuvenate her political career, Veep season 7 will be the last. Louis-Dreyfus, who also serves as executive producer on the series, explained that they want to go out on a high, saying, "We don't want to repeat ourselves or wear out our welcome. The story has a finality to it that feels end-of-series." As it so happens, Veep won't be the only major HBO series ending this year, as 2019 also marks the final season of Game of ThronesBig Little Lies, which was originally planned to be a one-season miniseries, is also expected to end this year.
