Vanessa Hudgens shares an awful coronavirus video and then apologizes after it’s too late. The impact of the coronavirus (aka COVID-19) pandemic has been considerable around the world, affecting the health and finances of thousands of people.

While the disease tends to more adversely affect the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions or compromised immune systems, no one is immune or guaranteed not to experience serious complications should they fall ill. This includes celebrities - one particular group of people who are often viewed as being safe from the sort of day to day challenges that affect most people. As more businesses close, and people are ordered to stay home in an effort to stem the spread of coronavirus, celebrities seem to be taking more time to livestream their thoughts to fans around the around in these difficult times. Some have used social media as a means to bring art and music to the public and some have simply opened themselves up to questions from fans in order to keep spirits as well as morale high. Certainly, the recent case of Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson having been diagnosed with the virus was a prime example of a celebrity using his status as a positive tool.

Yet with all the responsible and encouraging efforts from a wide array of celebrities, not everyone is making the best choices when it comes to addressing coronavirus. This was unfortunately the recent case with actress Vanessa Hudgens, who took to her Instagram account and made statements regarding the pandemic. According to The Independent, the High School Musical and Bad Boys For Life star spoke about victims of the virus in a particularly insensitive light, saying that deaths were “terrible” but “inevitable”:

“Yeah, ‘til July sounds like a bunch of bullsh-t, I’m sorry. But like, it’s a virus, I get it, I respect it, but at the same time, like – even if everybody gets it... Like, yeah, people are gonna die. Which is terrible, but like – inevitable?”

As a result of these statements, the internet reacted in a big way, forcing Hudgens to make an attempt at damage control with a new video that Twitter user Yashar Ali has made available via his account. During the 33 second apology, Hudgens insists that her previous comments were taken out of context while appealing to everyone to stay at home. The apology, which can be seen below, has so far only added more fuel to the fire, given that Hudgens failed to explain exactly what she originally meant by deaths being inevitable. In addition to that, the 31-year-old star didn’t specify just what part of her original statement was “taken out of context”:

With two rather awkward videos now to her credit, as well as a written apology, Twitter users have hit back at Hudgens. Numerous posts are now being addressed to the star, with parents of children with compromised immune systems wondering whether their loved ones' deaths are “inevitable.” You can see a selection of the posts below:

Undoubtedly, the world is currently experiencing a very tense and frightening time. Hudgens’ comments come from a place of ignorance, but also fear. As things continue to change on a daily basis with regards to the effects of coronavirus, the seriousness of this disease will become clearer to all. This isn’t to say that Hudgens is excused from her statements because she didn’t know any better, but hopefully all of this will be an eye opening learning experience for her. Her apologies so far have been rather weak, so it will be interesting to see how she reacts to this latest response to the manner in which she’s chosen to handle the reality of the virus and its victims.
