Lala Kent is one of the biggest USPs of Vanderpump Rules, the show that follows the fabulous lives of the staff at the West Hollywood fine diner SUR. She’s a major fan favorite because in spite of being a ‘troublemaker’, and she’s one of the most no-nonsense people on the show. She calls a spade a spade, even if that means getting into a tiff with her friends.

Lala may not have many allies on the show, but she has gone through a terrific transformation during the course of Vanderpump Rules. She has definitely worked on herself and though she’s famous for her blowouts at SUR, she has also surprised her cast mates by being the voice of reason in certain cases.

Crossed The Line: When She Shamed Raquel For Dating James

One could see why Lala would try to warn Raquel against the supposedly unfaithful James, but after a point she started lashing out at Raquel and treating her like a punching bag. Raquel had made it clear that she did not want Lala to meddle in her and James’ relationship, despite what their problems may be and she’s fully entitled to ask for privacy.

But Lala constantly humiliates Raquel publicly for not breaking up with James, which is problematic because Lala’s anger should ideally be directed at James who’s her friend, and not Raquel.

Was Reasonable: She Wanted To Keep Her Relationship Out Of The Public Domain

Lala And Randall

Lala is well within her rights to keep certain aspects of her personal life out of the show; even if the show’s premise involves following Lisa Vanderpump’s staff around in their personal and professional lives, Lala can choose not to reveal who she’s involved with. At the season 5 reunion, everyone pressures her to come clean about the man in her life and she refuses to do so.

“I don’t have the right to speak about someone’s life on national television when they did not sign up for this,” Lala told everyone. She also specifically called out Stassi for bullying her in this matter.

Crossed The Line: When She Crashed The SURvers Dinner

Lala Vanderpump

In season 5, Lala and James joined their friends for a late dinner, when they had not been invited. It wasn’t just awkward but also really nasty because Lala and James didn’t just drop in uninvited but also started trashing everyone at the table. They start drinking their alcohol which everyone objects to.

James also behaved obscenely, spilling drinks on Scheana, asking Kate if she’s pregnant. Lala doesn’t just laugh at this but also piles in, saying, “I can see everybody here has not been working on their summer bodies.”

Was Reasonable: Stood Her Ground During The Pasta Fight

Lala James Pasta Fight

In Season 6, during a lunch, James suddenly lashes out at Lala when she makes a harmless, random joke about Raquel. To be fair, James’ concerns were quite legitimate, Lala, has in the past, bullied Raquel. But during this incident Lala wasn’t being nasty, it was just casual lunch talk and James suddenly channels a lot of verbal aggression on her, as he calls her boyfriend ‘fat.'

He also tells her he will be bored of her soon and move on to the next, pretty blond thing. Lala, though shocked at first, stood her ground and tried to calmly explain to him that she wasn’t trying to be mean but James’ attacks were totally unprovoked.

Crossed The Line: When Lala Lashed Out At Katie

It’s often difficult to have a calm, reasonable conversation with Lala because she’s always ready to pick a fight, even with her own friends. This also alienates some of her fellow cast members. During season 5, Lala meets with Katie, Scheana and Ariana to hash out some differences but gets weirdly triggered every time her boyfriend is mentioned.

She also refuses to listen to others and makes some obscene suggestions to lash out at Katie who was genuinely trying to get to the bottom of the problem and in fact, Scheana and Ariana were also on board to wave the white flag.

Was Reasonable: The Way She Navigated The Dad-Blaming Incident

Lala Kent from Vanderpump Rules

During the big season 7 fight, Lala was also grieving the death of her father so she had quite a few unresolved hang-ups. Raquel tells everyone that Lala is dad-blaming to avoid accountability for her actions which was rather harsh, considering Lala clearly wasn’t in a great head space. During the Season 7 reunion, Lala tries to explain calmly why she thought this was an unfair accusation.

“When you lose a parent, which you will because it’s inevitable, I pray to god that whoever you’re around tiptoes around you, they let you swing from monkey bars screaming. I hope no one ever tries to cheapen the death and say it was an excuse like you did to me,” Lala told Raquel.

Crossed The Line: When She Became Super Aggressive During The Dramatic SUR Fight

Lala Kent SUR Fight

The season 7 fight where Lala creates a scene during the lunch rush is easily one of the nastiest blowouts to have happened on the show. Not only does Lala become aggressive towards Raquel, but she refuses to have a conversation, hitting her with loud insults in front of everyone.

Tom points out that James would probably get fired for creating a messy scene at SUR’s main entrance but Lala wouldn’t. One could see why Lala would be triggered whenever her dad’s death is mentioned, but she is always ready to attack anyone who challenges her on any level or demands some sort of accountability.

Was Reasonable: When She Asked Lisa For Her Job Back

Lala has never been averse to owning up to her mistakes, and though she hates being challenged, she did work on herself quite a bit. After she leaves Lisa hanging in Season 5, in season 6, Lala comes back to her to respectfully ask for her job back.

Lala also opened up to Lisa about how she’s been unreliable in the past and how she is ready to make amends. Lala’s calm apology did work in her favor because Lisa admitted that she has a soft spot for Lala and she wants good things for her.

Crossed The Line: When She Meddled With Jax And Brittany’s Relationship

Brittany and Jax hug and smile on camera on Vanderpump Rules

Lala doesn’t always respect her friends’ boundaries, and this creates quite a few problems. During a dinner in season 6, it’s revealed that Jax doesn’t know what his girlfriend Brittany wants to do in the future. Brittany, who has experience in helping kids with mental disabilities, wants to continue with her peer tutoring and claims to have told this to Jax several times.

When Lala sees Jax has no idea what his girlfriend likes even after a two-year relationship, she explodes at the table. She accuses him of behaving like a single man and also brings up his past behavior. And though her anger is justified, she clearly shouldn’t be a part of a conversation that’s between two people, especially when Brittany herself chose to not talk about it in public.

Was Reasonable: When She Wanted People To Take Her Anxiety Seriously

Vanderpump Rules Lala Drinks Out Of A Baby Bottle

When Lala gets an anxiety attack during a vacation and asks Scheana to pat her down, her friends shockingly do not take it seriously and tell her she’s overplaying her issues. This was clearly toxic behavior, since Lala was visibly in a bad place and was also on anxiety medication.

But not only did her friends not help her out but criticized her behind her back, as Max commented that since Lala is used to getting attention from her boyfriend all the time, she gets lost if she doesn't get attention from everyone. But instead of confronting them or making a scene afterwards, Lala just went up to her room to be alone.
