Vampires vs. the Bronx has been acquired by Netflix and is set for release globally on October 2, 2020, Screen Rant has learned.

Expect Vampires vs. the Bronx as part of the 2020 "Netflix and Chills" lineup of Halloween-themed content. The horror comedy comes from director Oz Rodriguez (A.P. Bio, Saturday Night Live) and tells the story of a group of young friends from the Bronx fighting to save their neighborhood from a band of vampires.

Rodriguez, who co-wrote the Vampires vs. the Bronx screenplay with Blaise Hemingway (Playmobil: The Movie, The Settlers of Catan), tell us that after years of directing episodes of SNL, he wanted to tell a more personal story. He continues:

"Growing up in the Dominican Republic I watched many adventure films with kids  that didn’t look like me. Moving to New York  and experiencing the rich multiculturalism of the city inspired me to write a new kind of adventure story. There’s a lack of stories reflecting some of the communities of the city, especially those dealing with gentrification. I’m excited for kids to hopefully see themselves represented on the screen as our heroes save their marginalized community."

The cast of Vampires vs. the Bronx includes Jaden Michael, Gerald W. Jones III, Gregory Diaz IV, Sarah Gadon, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Shea Whigham, Coco Jones, Joel “The Kid Mero” Martinez, Chris Redd, Vladimir Caamaño, Jeremie Harris, Adam David Thompson, Judy Marte, Richard Bekins, and Zoe Saldaña. Rodriguez explains, "it was important for us to find the right people for the roles."

"When it came to portraying the neighborhood we wanted as many New York actors as possible. As a Dominican I was excited to work with so many great Dominican actors like Jaden, Kid Mero, Vlad, Judy and the newcomer Zoe Saldaña," Rodriguez adds. Saldaña has a brief cameo in the movie. "It was a challenging shoot but our young trio of vampire killers Jaden, Gregory and Gerald made it look easy."

"It’s very exciting to share this movie with the whole world on Netflix. To have a global platform and be able to tell a story with diverse heroes saving the day is a dream come true. My family and friends in the Dominican Republic will be able to see it at the same time as young kids in the Bronx. I hope it gets loud."

Oz wants us to remind you to "protect ya neck!" and as for the young vampire-hunting stars of the feature, Gregory Diaz IV - who plays Luis - describes his character as a "horror loving skateboarding nerd who’s deep knowledge of vampires helps him and his crew to try and save The Bronx." Luis' friend Bobby is a "regular kid from The Bronx," says star Gerald W. Jones III. "Like many African - American boys he’s conflicted with gang activity and realizing it’s his detriment," he adds.

Rounding out the trio and leading them is Miguel, who Jaden Michael describes as "a confident leader." Michael continues, "although, he might not know everything, he knows what he wants. His ambition and courage drives him to do some outlandish things. But ultimately, he's got to get the vampires out of the Bronx."
