Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong has been delayed to February 2022. Publisher Nacon revealed the new release window shortly after the Nacon Connect event, where a new character trailer introducing Swansong's Galeb was shown.

Swansong is an upcoming narrative-focused game that is set to launch on every modern system. The game is set in the World of Darkness from Vampire: The Masquerade, where supernatural creatures hide in the shadows of human society. Swansong is set in the city of Boston, where three vampires struggle to survive among the deadly politics of their own kind. There is also the growing threat of the Second Inquisition, as some mortals have discovered the secret of vampire existence and started a crusade to wipe them out. Swansong will feature an ancient and powerful Ventrue named Galeb, who has grown disillusioned with the pursuit of power, and a Malkavian named Leysha, who belongs to a clan of vampires that all suffer from unique mental derangements.

Swansong was initially meant to launch in 2021, but the game only ever had a loose release window, and it now appears that was for a good reason. According to Eurogamerpublisher Nacon has confirmed that Swansong will no longer launch in 2021. The new Vampire: The Masquerade game will now be released in February 2022, though an exact date hasn't been given.

Swansong is hardly the only Vampire: The Masquerade game that has faced delays, as there is the ongoing behind-the-scenes drama surrounding Bloodlines 2which doesn't look like it's going to be hitting store shelves anytime soon either. The upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt battle royale is supposed to ship in 2021, but the game is still in its alpha stage, and it wouldn't be surprising to see it pushed back to 2022.

It's unsurprising to see Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong pushed back, as the only gameplay footage shown so far has been early work-in-progress quality. It's sad that it won't launch this year, but there are still lots of reasons to be excited for Swansong. The game is developed by the same studio behind The Council, which is the perfect fit for a Vampire: The Masquerade video game. A narrative-heavy game will the skill chances and superpowers of a tabletop RPG is a great choice for a Vampire: The Masquerade title. With any luck, in 2022 Swansong might be able to fill the Vampire: The Masquerade-shaped hole that has been left behind by Bloodlines 2.
