The highly-anticipated Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has now had exclusive pre-alpha gameplay footage shown off at this year's PC Gaming E3 2019 show, unveiling the game's Resonance system and other juicy details about Paradox Interactive's latest bloodsucking adventure.

After teasing footage of the franchise's infamous vampire clans earlier in the year, Paradox Interactive has finally released an extended pre-alpha gameplay trailer for us fans who were wondering what Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 was going to look like. Cara Ellison and Brian Mitsoda from the VtM team were also on-stage at the PC Gaming Show to provide some context for the footage and to tease new gameplay systems.

The extended gameplay trailer from Paradox Interactive details new vampire abilities, features, and also a little bit more about the story of Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2. Ellison, the Senior Narrative Designer, touched on a new feature called the Resonance system: in the game, vampires can "see the emotional resonance of humans" and can feed on those feelings (like fear and desire) in order to "feel more alive". Using the Resonance system also translates into in-game buffs which will make you more powerful.

Ellison also mentioned that there would be "volatile and mature relationships" in the game which would play a big part in the story. Since the player character is also going to be starting in a much better position than other newborn vampires within the Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 canon, there looks to be plenty of room for unique narrative interactions based on which factions you decide to side with.

Mitsoda was one of the minds behind the original Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines game, and the fact that he's bringing his touch to this latest installment has fans hopeful that the beloved parts of the original will be kept intact. A key returning mechanic will be balancing one's humanity and the secret of the Masquerade with getting ahead in the society of the World of Darkness, and we're excited to see how that all plays out.
