Vampire shows, much like vampires, are immortal and this article is essentially proof. Even though The Vampire Diaries ended, there's still have tons of spin-offs to keep fans going. It has been almost a decade since The Vampire Diaries graced our screens and it is pretty evident this franchise isn't going away.
This list is basically every reason you need to convince yourself to binge-watch both of these spin-offs. Legacies may be a newer arrival but it is still giving The Originals solid competition.
Even though The Originals ended last year, Legacies is about to release its second season. So, if you do decide to get hooked on the vampire theme, you will have more episodes to look forward to as well. So, without further ado, here are a couple of reasons why Vampire shows will never get old - literally.
10 Legacies: it may feature Damon and Elena's daughter
Legacies has dropped tons of hints about Delena's children. We are now starting to believe that we may finally meet Stefanie Salvatore. The spin-off has confirmed, more than once, that Damon and Elena have multiple children.
A recent scene in the show even saw Josie ask Lizzie to steal the watch that Stefanie Salvatore's father gave their dad. For those of you who have not kept up, that means Damon gave Alaric a watch. This could very well mean that Stefanie herself may become a recurring character in the show come season two.
9 The Originals: Allowed viewers to graduate
While The Vampire Diaries was a fantastic teen drama, many viewers were looking for a more adult version of the same show and The Originals delivered. The spin-off seemed to be more mature and the characters were far more intense, which is exactly what a lot of people wanted.
The Vampire Diaries was constantly talking about how it feels to be a vampire that goes to school and the constant mention of classes was getting a little old. This spin-off was a much-needed graduation ceremony for the franchise and most viewers loved it.
8 Legacies: Gives viewers a new perspective
The Originals is a show that requires fans to know a bit about The Vampire Dairies to get involved. Legacies, on the other hand, gives new viewers the ability to get hooked on the franchise far more easily. Even though it has plenty of references to the original series, it does not shy away from the idea of creating a completely new story. The show mainly revolves around a boarding school for supernaturals and focuses on that throughout. This makes it a show that pretty much anyone can get attached to.
The completely new cast along with some great narration on the side is enough for new viewers to leap right into the first episode.
7 The Originals: Ditched the doppelgängers
Even if you were a fan of The Vampire Diaries, keeping track of Elena and Katherine was nearly impossible. Even though all the doppelgängers made for some pretty interesting stories, it was just way too hard to keep track of. The show started to get a little tiring at times when an episode was solely focused on carbon copies trying to take each other down.
The Originals got rid of all of that and focused on a more straightforward storyline. This was something that fans really appreciated considering it is tiring enough trying to understand each supernatural creature.
6 Legacies: It's not tied down by family and relationship drama
The Originals has always been largely focused on family drama. Legacies, on the other hand, gives viewers a fresh take on the vampire world. It is far more relaxed and you do not have to worry about biting your nails during the entire episode. If you are looking for something a little more light-hearted, this might be it.
Even the original Vampire Diaries was very focused on the love triangle between Damon, Elena, and Stefan. The reason people are taking to Legacies is because it is more focused on Alaric and Hope.
5 The Originals: Elijah!
Elijah was the silent, brooding type and he won us all over. His unconditional love for his family was adorable and he was definitely a fan favorite. The Originals had a ton of baddies and Elijah was the one person that just about everybody could root for. He had an unwavering belief in his family and would do absolutely anything to keep them safe.
Even though his character was relatively simple and did not take part in as many crazy stories, he was still a very important part of the series, probably because he kept everyone else sane.
4 Legacies: It's funnier
Fans loved The Vampire Dairies and The Originals, but those shows did lack humor. It was a very serious show and you needed to watch the last episode to even bother with the next one. Legacies, on the other hand, has more funny one-liners to look forward to, which makes it more enjoyable.
The creator, Julia Plec, says that Legacies has brought out the comedic side in them. If you have watched season one, you will know exactly what they are talking about.
3 The Originals: More ruthless than the original
The Vampire Diaries seems incredibly tame when you compare it to this spin-off. Some of the fights and attacks were brutal and it is quite possibly the most violent show CW has ever seen. While Damon and Stefan did some questionable things, it cannot compare to the carnage left behind when Klaus or Elijah visited. The betrayals within the family were a whole other level as well.
Ripping hearts out and painting with his victim's blood was all part of Klaus' everyday routine.
2 Legacies: It's a step forward for the LGBTQ+ community
Legacies is one of the few shows that takes the time to make a positive change in society while also being an entertaining show. The LGBTQ+ community is not always represented well in the film industry, but Legacies is different and is being appreciated by the LGBTQ+ community.
One of the main characters of the show, Josie, flirts with a boy, points out a girl saying that she is her 'evil ex' and even seems attracted to a werewolf. Fans have come to the conclusion that Josie is probably pansexual, with the pilot episode even stating that "Binary assumptions about sexuality are dated."
1 The Originals: The show's based in a great location
New Orleans is full of culture and amazing scenery. Having the bulk of the show based in this amazing location was something fans appreciated time and time again. The town suited the show well and seemed to serve as an amazing backdrop. It has even become a tourist destination for die-hard fans.
St. Louis Cathedral, The French Quarter and Lafayette Cemetery were places that made some of the most iconic scenes unforgettable. This would not have been possible anywhere else and it helped make the show that much more appealing to the eye.
