Caroline was the only person who was able to get through to Klaus during his time in Mystic Falls, and she continued to see the good in him when no one else did. There are plenty of quotes that exemplify how much the two of them cared about each other, as they often had some of the most meaningful lines in the show.

"I Should've Turned My Back On You Ages Ago."

While the line sounds hostile, this quote revealed something that neither Klaus nor Caroline seemed to realize before that moment. Despite all the evil things that Klaus had done, Caroline had never actually given up on him as she'd led him to believe. Unlike the rest of her friends, she still thought that he could be saved, which caught them both off guard.

The confession came out in the middle of a heated argument, which snapped Klaus back to reality after Silas had gotten into his head. Klaus tells Caroline that she brought him back, and the entire episode showcases the progress between the former enemies.

"It's Not A Crime To Love What You Can't Explain."

Klaus and Caroline hadn't spoken since they gave into their feelings and Klaus returned to New Orleans. But during The Vampire Diaries Season 7, an accidental phone call between them ends up changing Caroline's life. A spell had forced her to carry Jo and Alaric's babies, and she was beginning to feel attached to them even though they weren't technically hers.

Klaus senses her distress over the phone and assures her that there's nothing wrong with the love she has for the twins. After her conversation with Klaus, Caroline ends up living with Alaric and raising the children as her own.

"I've Shown Kindness, Forgiveness, Pity...Because Of You, Caroline. It Was All For You."

Klaus Mikaelson had been stuck in his ways for the past 1000 years, so it seemed impossible for him to ever do anything other than what he wanted. He was power-hungry, vengeful, and cared very little about the people around him.

But Caroline's opinion of him meant everything to Klaus, and despite the short time they had known each other, her word became law to him. It was shocking to see a character who was painted as the villains of all villains give in to someone else's demands, but it made their relationship all the more fun to watch.

"All I Can Think About Is How Much I Want To Show It To You. Maybe One Day You'll Let Me."

The backdoor pilot of The Originals ended with Klaus leaving a message for Caroline. He told her about how much he loved the city, but it meant little without her there to enjoy it with.

Caroline never gives any indication of having listened to the message, but a decade later she plays the recording on her cellphone. Klaus realizes that she saved it all of those years, and she intended to take him up on his offer. On Klaus's last day, he gives Caroline a tour of New Orleans just like he had promised.

"It Would Be Impossible Not To Notice You, Caroline."

For her entire life, Caroline lived in Elena's shadow. But the oldest and most powerful vampire in the history of time fell for Caroline instantly and loved her as no one else had before. Even Stefan, who Caroline married, couldn't remember the moment they met because he too only had eyes for Elena.

Klaus only had eyes for Caroline and was willing to do whatever it took to win her heart. A decade after they met, Caroline wonders if Klaus would pay her any attention if he didn't already know her, and he assures Caroline that he always would.

"You're Beautiful, You're Strong, You're Full Of Light. I Enjoy You."

There were plenty of characters who fell for Caroline throughout The Vampire Diaries' run, but Klaus was one of the only people who saw Caroline for who she really was. She was called selfless, shallow, and useless by other love interests, while Klaus saw her as a beacon of light.

Klaus admired her strength and determination, and she was quite literally the light to his darkness. But rather than pulling Caroline down with him, Caroline raised Klaus up and made him a better person. While Damon changed for Elena, Klaus changed because of Caroline, making their romance stand apart from others in the series.

"I Know That You're In Love With Me. And Anybody Capable Of Love, Is Capable Of Being Saved."

When Klaus is trapped in Elena's living room by a spell, Caroline and Tyler end up guarding him. Things intensify quickly, and Klaus bites Caroline to get revenge on Tyler and bargain for his freedom. But Tyler knows Klaus is bluffing and would never actually let Caroline die, so he leaves Caroline alone with Klaus in the house.

Caroline tells Klaus that she knows the depth of his affection for her, and because he's capable of love, he's capable of redemption. Caroline starts to take a turn for the worst, and when Klaus fully comprehends that she's dying, he feeds her his blood to save her.

"I'll Never Forget You."

In a deleted scene from the series, Tyler speaks to Klaus before he leaves Mystic Falls. He assures him that while Klaus spends his life chasing Tyler, Caroline will forget him. Tyler goes on to say that Klaus means nothing to Caroline and he never will.

Caroline's last words to Klaus showcasing the exact opposite was a beautiful way to end their journey. It's heartbreaking that Klaus had to die, as he and Caroline could have finally been together if he hadn't, but their goodbye showcased their evolution.

"I Think A Part Of Me Has Always Known...You Weren't The Villain Of My Story."

Because of all the horrible things Klaus had done, Caroline aligned with her friends and treated him as the enemy. There were times when she claimed to hate him, but it never felt like she actually wanted him gone. The connection between them was too strong to be broken, and it was upsetting to Caroline because he was supposed to be one of the bad guys.

Years down the line, Caroline told Klaus about the time she put her daughters in the car and drove to see him. Klaus wasn't in New Orleans at the time, but it made Caroline realize who he truly was to her.

"He's Your First Love. I Intend To Be Your Last. However, Long It Takes."

Out of all of Klaus and Caroline's quotes, this one remains the best. Before Klaus went back to New Orleans in the Season 4 finale of The Vampire Diaries, he told Caroline that Tyler was free to return to Mystic Falls. Klaus gave up his need for revenge for Caroline's happiness, and also revealed that he didn't see Tyler as a threat to what the two of them shared.

Caroline might not have been ready to pursue a relationship with Klaus at the time, but he told her he would wait. Long after Caroline and Tyler break up, Caroline receives a generous donation from Klaus to support her new school. Klaus writes in his letter that he hopes to see her in person again, however long it takes.
