Ultimately, Caroline married Stefan Salvatore in season 8 before Klaus' death in The Originals. Still, Klaroline shared several scenes that highlighted their connection and made many fans devoted shippers.

Updated on August 19th, 2021 by Kevin Pantoja: The bond between Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes is easily one of the most compelling on The Vampire Diaries. They didn't get nearly the amount of screen time together as the show's main romances but they still had so many great moments that it's difficult to narrow it down to just 10. That's not even counting their few shared moments on The Originals either.

Caroline Gets Klaus To Open Up Emotionally

Klaus and Caroline go on a date in The Vampire Diaries.

A highlight for Klaroline shippers everywhere came when Caroline agreed to go on a date with Klaus, which happened at the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. Many sweet moments ensued, one of them being when Klaus said he wouldn't take the cure because of how powerful he is. Klaus could also see that, unlike Elena, Caroline preferred herself as a vampire.

She asked him if he ever wished he was normal and his eventual answer was a rare vulnerable moment for the hybrid. He said the only time came when he heard a hummingbird's heart beating quickly and envied how much every moment must be a gift to something with such a fragile existence. It showed a different side of Klaus than audiences were used to.

Klaus Comes To Caroline's Graduation

By the time season 4 was wrapping up, Klaus's popularity as a character (along with that of Elijah and Rebekah) saw them getting their own spin-off series. So, he mostly stopped appearing on The Vampire Diaries but was needed in the season 4 finale when Damon had to be healed from a werewolf bite.

Klaus didn't answer any calls but showed up in the nick of time, decapitating a witch who threatened Caroline and her friends. His heartfelt goodbye later was a bigger moment but this was a case of him being heroic. It meant even more that he had already been on his way to the event simply because Caroline had invited him.

Klaus Wouldn't Let Tyler Hurt Caroline

As soon as Tyler Lockwood became a hybrid at the hands of Klaus, it caused a major rift in his relationship with Caroline. Tyler was sired to Klaus and basically had to do anything he said, which included giving Caroline a fatal werewolf bite that Klaus ended up healing her from.

At one point when Caroline was particularly hurt by Tyler's decisions, she talked to Klaus about it at the bar. Klaus simply said that if Tyler had still been sired to him, that never would've happened because he wouldn't have allowed it. It was another display of how Caroline was one of the only people Klaus truly cared for.

Caroline's Calmness As Klaus Saves Her From Alaric

Alaric Saltzman was the victim of a spell by Esther in season 3 that turned him into an Original vampire. He targeted all vampires and that included kidnapping and torturing Caroline at the high school. Elena showed up and helped get Caroline free as she ran out into the hallway.

Suddenly, Caroline was grabbed from behind. She had fear in her eyes until she heard Klaus confirm that it was only him and that she was safe. Caroline immediately became calmer and thanked him, which showed that for all the evil Klaus did, Caroline felt surprisingly safe with him.

Caroline Calls Out Klaus's Love For Her

Throughout all of Klaus's pursuit of a romance with Caroline, the words "I love you" were never really said. The viewers could tell that this wasn't just a case of Klaus "fancying" her and that there was a lot more to it. So, it was more than welcome when Caroline finally called him out on it.

With Klaus trapped in the Gilbert house, he lashed out and bit Caroline, putting her on the verge of death. They talked as Caroline was dying and she admitted that she believed he could be redeemed because he was capable of love since she knew he was in love with her. Klaus gave her a look that confirmed it without him ever saying anything and he ultimately cured her shortly after.

Caroline stands up to Klaus in Season 3's "Dangerous Liaisons," though this only makes the Original desire her more. When Caroline returns home, she finds a hand-drawn picture of herself from Klaus, with a note from the hybrid thanking her for her honesty.

Klaus and Caroline shared one of their more light-hearted scenes in season 4's "My Brother's Keeper." The town celebrated the Miss Mystic Falls pageant again as Caroline passed her crown to April Young. Klaus relished the opportunity to tease Caroline about her over-achieving nature and the pair share a poignant conversation about being human.

Caroline and Klaus had instant chemistry in all of their scenes and the characters shared a great deal of sexual tension. This moment, however, displays the playfulness that they brought out in each other and showcases the kind of couple they could have been.

Klaus Gives Caroline Her Prom Dress

Elena had many big humanity-less moments on The Vampire Diaries, and one of them was almost derailing Caroline's prom night in season 4's "Pictures Of You." However, Klaus managed to save the day. After Elena stole Caroline's prom dress in a moment of spite, Caroline asked the Original for help and he gifted her a stunning gown fit for a queen.

Despite their initial status as enemies, Caroline went to Klaus for help more than once during The Vampire Diaries. Klaus arguably understood her more than her friends did, especially when it came to her fashion sense.

Klaus departed from Mystic Falls and The Vampire Diaries in season 4, leaving for New Orleans and his own spin-off show, The Originals. But that's not before he shared an emotional goodbye with Caroline in "Graduation."

Klaus allows Caroline's boyfriend, Tyler Lockwood, to return to town in celebration of the blonde vampire's graduation. The Original hybrid declares that, although Tyler is her first love, he intends to be her last, which was the most romantic thing he ever said to her.

Their Passionate Tryst In The Woods

Klaus returned to Mystic Falls briefly in season 5's "500 Years Of Solitude," and he and Caroline finally gave in to their feelings for each other. The hybrid initially comes with the hope of gloating over a dying Katherine Pierce. However, he instead reconciles with Caroline and the two sleep together for the first time.

Klaus urges Caroline to confess her feelings and the vampire does, on the condition that Klaus leaves town again afterward. This moment was a long time coming for Klaroline fans, who were waiting for the vampires to give in to their passion since season 3.

Caroline And Klaus Discuss Parenthood

Klaus and Caroline go on a road trip in The Originals.

Klaroline shared a touching phone conversation in season 7 of The Vampire Diaries that highlighted how far both characters had come in their respective journeys. Both characters somehow became parents despite their vampiric natures. They discuss parenthood in "Moonlight On The Bayou," reuniting in a bittersweet moment for fans.

This scene signifies how much both characters have grown since their initial encounter in season 3. Klaus' daughter, Hope, and Caroline's surrogate twins, Lizzie and Josie, become students together at the Salvatore Boarding School in Legacies.

Caroline Helps Klaus Overcome Silas' Control

The Mystic Falls gang faced a threat even more dangerous than Klaus in season 4. The immortal psychic, Silas, escaped from his tomb and wasted no time in manipulating the town's supernatural residents with his mind-altering abilities.

Silas attacks Klaus in "American Gothic" and convinces the hybrid that he has a piece of the White Oak stake lodged near his heart. Caroline helps Klaus overcome the psychic's influence by confronting him and the two grow closer as they discuss their differences. She was able to save him when it was often the other way around.

Klaus Cures Caroline From A Werewolf Bite

Klaus feeds Caroline his blood

Klaus and Caroline shared their first singular encounter in season 3's "Our Town." The Original cures Caroline from Tyler's werewolf bite and tells the vampire about the beauty, art, and wonder that the world has to offer.

This scene spawned the Klaroline pairing as it highlighted the instant chemistry between both characters. The sexual tension between Caroline and Klaus rivaled Damon and Elena's and instantly made them one of the show's most popular couples.

Klaus Says Goodbye At The Decade Dance

Klaus and Caroline shared another dance in season 3's "Do Not Go Gentle." Klaus interrupts Caroline's dance with Tyler and informs the blonde vampire that he is leaving town. Esther puts an end to his plans, however, when she places a magical barrier against vampires around the school.

Klaroline's earlier encounters were full of understandable hostility, particularly on Caroline's part. However, Caroline still felt an attraction to the hybrid and their scenes were reminiscent of season 1 Delena moments.

Klaus Calls Caroline From New Orleans

Klaus left Mystic Falls to reclaim his home from Marcel Gerard in season 4's backdoor pilot episode "The Originals." Whilst in New Orleans, the hybrid calls Caroline and leaves an emotional message that had Klaroline fans hoping for an eventual reunion for the couple.

Klaus tells Caroline that he is standing in one of his favorite places in the world, yet can only think of her. This scene is a tough one for fans of Klaus and Caroline's romance, who are left speculating as to how The Originals would have been if Caroline had joined Klaus in the French Quarter. She did eventually visit him on the spinoff to help him in a time of need.
