With its Viking lore and Norse mythology influences, Valheim has proven to be quite the popular survival game. Although it's still in Steam Early Access, the game from developer Iron Gate Studio gets regular updates. Beyond the typical crafting, gathering, and survival mechanics, there are currently multiple events that can trigger randomly at certain points in the story. Here's everything to know about Valheim's story-related events and what triggers them.

There are two types of events in Valheim: story-related and enemy-related. Story-related events are exactly what the name implies - these events will trigger randomly once certain story requirements have been met. There are five known story-related events that occur in Valheim right now. The first event will have "Eikthyr rallies the creatures of the forest" appear on the screen and send boars and necks at players. This event is triggered at any point until Valheim's first boss, Eikthyr, is defeated.

The second event in Valheim that can occur during the story will give a "The forest is moving..." prompt. A variety of Greydwarf enemies will attack at this time, and the event is triggered anytime after beating Eikthyr but before the second boss, The Elder, is defeated. Once the Elder is defeated, other story-related events will be triggered instead.

Valheim Portals Ever Let Players Carry Ore Through

The third story-related event in Valheim will show up as "A foul smell from the swamp" and have draugar and skeleton enemies attacking players for about two and a half minutes. This third event is triggered after the Elder is defeated but before the third boss, Bonemass, falls. Similarly, the fourth story-related event will trigger after Bonemass is defeated and before Moder - Valheim's fourth boss - is beaten. This event will start with "A cold wind blows from the mountains" and applies the Freezing debuff as well as sending drakes to attack players.

The fifth and final story-related event will show up as "The horde is attacking" and features a variety of Fulings. This event can happen at any time between beating Moder and summoning and killing Yagluth, Valheim's final boss (for now). After this, there are no more story-related events currently in the game.

Each of these story-related events can occur at any time once the necessary narrative progression and story requirements have been met. It's a great way to shake up gameplay in Valheim, and these hordes of enemies will certainly keep players on their toes.
