Valheim players have found that portals hidden within walls make for the perfect decoration when designing the inside of their bases. The incredibly successful survival game landed on PC via Steam Early Access just a few short weeks ago, but has already sold above and beyond expectations, managing to shift four million copies in less than a month.

Though the experience centers around battle-slain Vikings and their attempt to survive Valheim, the 10th Norse realm, players are doing a whole lot more than fighting mythical beasts. For instance, the Valheim faithful have gone the extra mile to craft homages to iconic locales in popular culture. Someone meticulously recreated High Hrothgar, the monastery from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that sits atop the Seven Thousand Steps. Another creative player even took it upon themselves to construct a predominantly wooden version of Star Wars' Millennium Falcon ship. And just recently, players began a concerted effort to fling themselves to Valhalla with a catapult. Now fans are taking their creativity yet another step forward.

Reddit user Chemy recently shared a clip of how they're using portals in a rather inventive fashion. Typically, portals in Valheim work as one would expect - each buildable structure connects to a corresponding structure, allowing players to quickly transport from one place to another. But Chemy has found that hiding portals in walls culminates in an awesome effect, especially if the portals are then covered with tapestry. The Redditor did just that in their base, lining both walls of a hall with portals before covering them up. Chemy's character activates each portal as they pass through along, creating an effect that seems well worth the effort.

Since Valheim is still so early in its life cycle, dedicated players are bound to uncover even more interesting tips and tricks. And it seems developer Iron Gate will continue working towards giving active users additional tools with which to explore the experience further. This much is evident in the updates the development crew plans to release throughout the game's Early Access period on Steam.

According to a roadmap Iron Gate shared close to launch, there are at least four major updates on the docket. There's no word on when such additions will begin rolling out, but players should keep an eye out for content referred to as "Hearth and Home," "Cult of the Wolf," and more. The group also intends on deploying a new biome at a later date.
