As players explore the wilderness and find new resources to collect in Valheim, they are bound to want to collect and use more than they can carry. Inventory space is limited to about 32 slots in Valheim, and players can only carry a weight of about 300 before they become overencumbered and lose movement speed and stamina. While there is no way to increase inventory space, there is a way for players to increase this weight limit by about 50% and carry heavier items, like metal ore, more easily in big quantities. The key to this increase is in a powerful item players can purchase from Haldor the traveling Merchant for coins.

The item players will need is a belt called Megingjord. In Norse mythology, Megingjord is the belt worn by Thor to increase his strength and power. It will cost players a hefty sum, as well as an inventory slot, but is extremely useful when mining metals and other treasures later in the game. Here's how to get Megingjord and increase the Inventory weight limit in Valheim.

How to Get Megingjord in Valheim

A player enters the Black Forest and stands on a rock in Valheim

Megingjord is a belt that improves strength and increases a player's carrying weight from 300 to 450 when equipped. To get it, players are going to need to find the traveling Merchant, Haldor. He can typically be found in the Black Forest biome near the shores. Players can often locate him based on his campfire, but once they get within 1000 kilometers, they will be able to see him marked on the map as a bag of money. Once players have found him the first time, Haldor won't change locations. Players could create a portal from his campsite to their base, but some items will not be able to travel with them through the portal.

To reach Haldor the first time, players are going to need a raft or other seaworthy vessel. They will also need to have saved their Coins or to bring some of their more valuable treasures from exploring to trade with him.

Megingjord costs 950 Coins and is easily one of the most expensive items in the game so far. Players will be able to get some Coins after defeating Trolls, but they will also want to sell some of the treasures they find while exploring dungeons and crypts. Rubies, Amber, and Pearls can be sold for quick gold to help players pay for this upgrade.

When players want to use Megingjord, they will need to place it in an Inventory slot. As long as they have the belt equipped, that Inventory slot will not be usable, and players will only have access to up to 31 slots. However, they should be able to stack more items due to the increased weight allowance. If players need to stash items away to leave Inventory space free during their explorations, they can build chests in their home to store extra materials and items.
