Iron Gate Studio has released a teaser video for Valheim's Hearth and Home update, which will rework the food, health, and stamina systems. Hearth and Home has been in the works for a while, with Iron Gate previously teasing plans to release it as an overhaul for the base-building functionality in Valheim.

Had things gone as originally planned, players would likely already be knee deep in the update. However, a fairly recent delay from the development crew pushed Hearth and Home to Q3 2021; as such, the content should go live sometime prior to September 30, though Iron Gate remains mum about release-related specifics. At the very least, the studio continues to offer fans hints of what to expect from Valheim's first major update. One recent sneak peek, for instance, came in the form of screenshots showcasing Coin Stacks, Coin Piles, and Treasure Chests, all of which will allow players to hoard like a dragon. The last teaser additionally offered a quick look at the Iron Gate feature, something users should find beneficial for locking up their treasures or captured foes.

Today, August 9, the crew at Iron Gate Studio shared yet another sneak peek preview for Valheim's Hearth & Home update. The video focuses on the food-centric overhaul that's on the horizon, noting how food currently offers players "roughly the same amount of stamina as health." Hearth & Home, however, will divide the food system into three different categories. Foods marked with a red icon will primarily provide health benefits; a yellow icon denotes a stamina boost; and a white means players should expect an "even split." In addition, the studio plans to replace the food bar with timers showing how much time a user has left on each piece of sustenance before they need to consume another. This balanced approach to the Valheim food system will allow players to better adjust their playstyle.

The overhaul should be well received by those who like to approach their in-game adventures more strategically. When venturing into the wild, players may want to focus their food intake on stamina or health, a decision that will likely impact their behavior in combat. But stamina-based foods could prove especially beneficial for long bouts of base-building.

What the above sneak peek didn't reveal is a firm due date for Hearth and Home. If Iron Gate plans to maintain its Q3 2021 release window, though, such news should go live in the very near future.
