The Thunder Stone is a new item in Valheim that was added during the Hearth & Home update, and players who want an easier way to get rid of items in their inventory will need to find one. The Hearth & Home update added many new items to Valheim, including new craftable recipes, stunning building potential, and new creatures to fight. One new station Vikings can craft is the Obliterator, a device used for destroying all unwanted goods.

The Obliterator is a long-requested item for Valheim, particularly because before its introduction, there was no easy way to delete items. Players could only toss away items they no longer needed or wanted. The Obliterator solves that issue. Vikings can craft an Obliterator at their settlement, put all unwanted items into it, and pull the lever. Thor's lightning will strike the trash, converting everything into Coal. Before crafting the Obliterator, however, players need to get their hands on a Thunder Stone.

Valheim Guides: How to Craft The Obliterator (& How it Works)

The Thunder Stone is one of four items needed to craft the Obliterator. The other three items are as follows:

  1. 1 Forge
  2. 8 Iron
  3. 4 Copper

Where To Find Thunder Stones In ValheimValheim Obliterator

Thunder Stones can be found in the Black Forest biome, the same place where Copper can be mined. Players also need to find the NPC merchant Haldor to purchase a Thunder Stone for 50 Coins. Vikings can collect and hoard more Coins from chests across Valheim's landscape or inside Burial Chambers.

Finding Haldor in the Black Forest and trading with him may be the most difficult part of the process, but it doesn't have to be! Generating the right world seed in Valheim will make the game's procedurally generated map much easier to navigate. After all the materials are found, players should return to their Forge to craft an Obliterator.

How To Use Thunder Stones In Valheim

Seasoned players will probably have a stockpile of the other materials needed to craft the Obliterator already, but anyone can head to the Swamp biome to mine more Iron from Muddy Scrap Piles. Copper is obtained by putting Copper Ores in a Smelter, which ironically needs Coal in order to heat up. Only one Thunder Stone is needed to craft the Obliterator.

While it's not intended to be used as a weapon, the Obliterator can inflict damage to players, enemies, and buildings if they aren't careful. Vikings should stand back a few feet and ensure nothing of importance is nearby before activating the Obliterator, otherwise, they may be struck by Thor's lightning.

The Obliterator isn't an item that needs to be acquired, but ultimately it's a great idea to seek one out as soon as possible. Coal is a valuable resource used to fuel both Forges and Smelters in Valheim, so ultimately, getting rid of any unwanted items and turning them into Coal is a great way to always keep fuel available and save time and resources.
