Bows are some of the more versatile weapons in Valheim, but Vikings will need arrows, and therefore feathers, to use them. In Valheim, players may be tasked with fighting the powerful Forsaken bosses to bring order to the realm, but there is also nothing stopping them from just exploring the world, fighting minor enemies, crafting every armor set, and building enormous bases or a beautifully designed house.

Feathers may be one of the first materials players ever encounter once they spawn into Valheim, but their use later on in the game is not made apparent. When players first get a stone axe and begin chopping down trees, they may come across some feathers that have fallen onto the ground. These are simple and lightweight materials that players will not have an immediate use for, but they should store any they find.

Feathers drop from beech and fir trees, which can be found in the Meadow and the Black Forest biomes respectively. There are often very few available at first. Larger numbers of feathers can be found in chests within burial chambers or in abandoned buildings, but finding and fighting through those can be a hassle. The best way to collect feathers is by obtaining them at the source: birds.

How To Farm More Feathers In Valheim

Valheim Gull Sneak

Players can get more Feathers in Valheim from crows and seagulls. Seagulls are usually found around the coasts and are usually the first bird players ever see in the game. White and with black-tipped wings, they are fairly easy to spot in any biome. Crows, on the other hand, can be a bit trickier to spot. They are usually all black and found primarily in the Black Forest region, so it is fairly easy for players to overlook them.

To farm feathers from birds, players will need to have crafted any bow or spear. Trying to kill them from a distance is definitely the way to go about it, as movement can scare them off. It's incredibly difficult to snipe them from afar while they are in the air; this can case a lot of wasted arrows.

Instead, players should find an open area and wait for a bird to land; they should be aware that Hugin does not count. Then, it's just a matter of aiming. Players are advised to get some target practice beforehand, but a good rule of thumb is to place the aiming reticle slightly above the intended target to account for gravity.

Players should aim, power up the shot, and release. If the hit lands, they should see the bird erupt into a puff of smoke and sparkles as the carcass disappears. The feathers dropped should be nearby. This can be repeated as many times as necessary to collect more feathers. Vikings are likely to have the most luck finding birds on the ground during and after rainy weather.
