Valheim is a survival co-op adventure game where players need to gather materials, upgrade skills, and explore dangerous lands. Crafting weapons, building camps, defeating bosses, and setting sail are all part of progressing in the game's large open world. With adventures like ValheimViking culture has become increasingly popular in video games.

In order to advance in Valheim, players must find and collect a significant amount of resources. Certain materials and items are more difficult to obtain than others, but there are plenty of things for players to build early on in the game. There are also new building materials and items to craft in Valheim's recent update, Hearth & Home. Crafting takes up a large portion of the game, so it's vital for players to understand how to build items and what they do.

Some of Valheim's items, like the Spinning Wheel, have prerequisites that need to be met before building, but the new Cartography Table can be crafted early in the game. Building the table requires a fair amount of resources, but the materials can be found pretty easily. The addition of the Cartography Table adds a few important functions that make the multiplayer aspect of the game even more appealing. The table can record significant data from a Valheim dedicated server, and players can share information with other adventurers.

Crafting and Using the Cartography Table in Valheim

Valheim - Cartography Table

In order to craft the Cartography Table, players will need to gather a few common materials. Unlike Valheim's Windmill and other late-game items, players only need a level 1 Workbench in order to build the table. It's listed in the miscellaneous section under the hammer. There are 5 different types of materials needed to craft the Cartography Table:

  • Bone Fragment (x10) - These can be collected in the Black Forest by defeating skeletons.
  • Fine Wood (x10) - Use a bonze axe or better to chop down oak or birch trees.
  • Leather Scraps (x5) - Defeat boars to gather this material.
  • Raspberry (x4) - Raspberries grow abundantly in the Meadow.
  • Bronze (x2) - Use a forge to combine 1 tin and 2 copper.

The Cartography Table enhances the multiplayer experience in Valheim. It has two functions that are used to share information between players. First, the table can record discoveries by taking the information from a player's map and saves it to the table. Using the table to read a map gives players access to details recorded by others. Saved data includes markers, text, and points of interest, which can be very helpful for comprehensive exploration.

The Cartography Table, added in the Hearth & Home update, is particularly useful for players that want to track, share, and expand their adventuring. The item becomes especially helpful later in the game when players can travel further using Valheim's fastest and largest boat, the Longship. Having the ability to share maps and details with other players with the Cartography Table is a welcome update to adventuring in Valheim.
